''Ultimate Prince'' is a greatest hits album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on August 22, 2006, by Warner Bros. Records. The two-disc set contains a disc of some previously released hits (some in single edit form; only "My Name Is Prince" had not been on a previous hits collection), and another of extended remixes of hits and a B-side, most of which had only been previously released as 12-inch singles. Release date controversy The album was originally slated to be released in North America on March 14, 2006, but was canceled just days before its release. This is likely due to Prince not wanting competition with his new '' 3121'', scheduled to be released only one week later. However, promo copies of the album had already been sent to some retailers and were sold before the album's recall. ''3121'' (pronounced "thirty-one twenty-one") is the thirty-first studio album by American musician Prince. It was released on March 21, 2006 (or, on 3/21). ''3121'' was released by NPG Records and distributed, under a "one-album deal", by Universal Music. ''3121'' reinforced Prince's big comeback after the critical success of '' Musicology'' (2004). It is the only Prince album ever to debut at number one (during his lifetime) on the ''Billboard'' 200, with over 180,000 copies sold in its first week. The Revolution (band)
The Revolution is an American band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1979 by Prince, serving as his live band and later as his studio band. The band's sound incorporated rock, pop, R&B, funk, new wave and psychedelic elements. Along with Prince's other projects, the Revolution helped create the Minneapolis sound. By the time of their 1986 breakup, the Revolution had backed Prince on two studio albums, two soundtracks and two videos. The song addresses speculation about Prince at the time such as his sexuality, gender, religion, and racial background, and how he could not understand the curiosity surrounding him. Background The song has two main verses, a few choruses, with the title repeated throughout the track. Towards the middle he recites the Lord's Prayer in full, which fueled the fire for some to say the song was blasphemous. "Uptown" is the lead single from Prince's third album, ''Dirty Mind''. Beginning with a lone drum intro, the track explodes into the keyboards of the chorus.
