Ulla Billquist
Ulla Ebba Ingegerd Billquist, (née Schönström 14 August 1907 – 6 July 1946), was a Swedish female schlager singer. She was mostly successful during the early 1940s. Personal life Ulla Billquist married three times; firstly from 1926 to 1934 to the actor Fritiof Billquist (1901–1972), then to the director Wolmar Sjögren (1901–1974) from 1936 to 1942, and finally to the composer, accordionist and the pianist Gunnar Hahn (1908–2001) in 1943 until her death. At the time of her death, she has been separated from her third husband, Gunnar Hahn since the winter of 1946. Eslöv
Eslöv (; older da, Eslev) is a town and the seat of Eslöv Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden with 19,598 inhabitants as of 2018. Eslöv is part of the Öresund Region. History According to a map from 1717, Eslöv village was originally located in the current crossing Västergatan-Remmarlövsvägen. When the Southern Main Line, already passing through cities such as Stockholm and Malmö, was built through Eslöv the town's growth took off. On 4 October 1858 the first trains rolled on the southern main line through Eslöv. On 1 July 1865 the railway from Eslöv to Landskrona and Helsingborg (see Rååbanan) was taken into use and on 1 May 1866 the railway opened to Ystad. "Min soldat" (English: "My Soldier") is a Sweden, Swedish song written by Nils Perne (Jokern). It was recorded by Ulla Billquist in 1940 and became one of the most popular Swedish songs during World War II. Carroll Loveday wrote new English language, English lyrics for the song, which became "The Shrine of St. Cecilia". It was recorded by numerous artists. Origins The song was written for and first performed by Naemi Briese in Gosta Jonsson’s revue ''Det kommer en vår'' at the Folkan theatre in Stockholm. In the song, a woman is thinking of her fiance who is a soldier "somewhere in Sweden" ("någonstans i Sverige"). She recalls how fashionable he was in comparison to the photograph of him in an ill-fitting uniform. He has told her that they cannot afford to get married this year, and when he arrived yesterday on leave and took her to a dance, he was so tired that he fell asleep at the table.
