Ula, Norway
Ula is a small seaside village in the Tjølling district in Larvik municipality, Vestfold County, Norway. It had the status of ''tettsted'' (urban settlement) until 2003, when the population dropped below 200. The village and harbour become busier during summer months, due to an influx of people occupying Ula's many vacation homes and campgrounds. A number of protected and preserved 18th century wooden homes are located along the main beach. Tourism Ula is located on the Vestfold coast about halfway between the cities of Sandefjord and Larvik, and is a popular summer holiday destination surrounded by Cabins and vacation homes. The sandy beach at Ula is one of the longest in the region. The sheltered harbour caters to pleasure craft and a small commercial fishing fleet. Tjølling
Tjølling is a former municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. Tjølling was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Together with Brunlanes, Stavern and Hedrum, it was merged into Larvik on January 1, 1988. Tjølling had 7,878 residents at one point, as well as an area of 70km². Tjøllingvollen is currently a village and a town that was the municipal center in the then Tjølling municipality. Geography and demography Tjølling includes the 69,5 km² area between Numedalslågen and Sandefjordsfjorden, south of European route E18, E18. There's some agriculture and numerous Quarry, quarries excavating of larvikite in Tjølling. Larvik
Larvik () is a List of cities in Norway, town and Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark Counties of Norway, county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Larvik. The municipality of Larvik has about 46,364 inhabitants. Vestfold
Vestfold is a traditional region, a former county and a current electoral district in Eastern Norway. In 2020 the county became part of the much larger county of Vestfold og Telemark. Located on the western shore of the Oslofjord, it bordered the previous Buskerud and Telemark counties. Sandefjord
Sandefjord () is a city and the most populous municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The municipality of Sandefjord was established on 1 January 1838. The municipality of Sandar was merged into Sandefjord on 1 January 1969. Kjerringvik
Kjerringvika or Kjerringvik is a village located in the municipality of Inderøy in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located on the shore of the Trondheimsfjord at the Skarnsund strait, about northeast of the village of Mosvik. The village is located along the Norwegian County Road 755 at the western end of the Skarnsund Bridge. The bridge was built in 1991 to replace the old Vangshylla–Kjerringvik Ferry which was in service from 1958–1991. The first six years of service also included a ferry connection to the town of Levanger. In 1991, the ferry service was replaced by the Skarnsund Bridge. Anders Jacob Johansen
Anders Jacob Johansen (1815 – November 28, 1881, surname also Johanessen or Johannessøn), known as Ulabrand, was a renowned maritime pilot that lived in Ula in Vestfold og Telemark, Norway. He served as pilot in Ula from about 1850 until he perished in a fall storm in 1881, when his pilot boat was lost in the open sea south of Tjøme for unknown reasons. At the end of the 19th century, the pilots themselves had to hail ships needed piloting. The pilot's fee was paid to the one that arrived first and brought the ship safely into port. The pilots therefore used lookout points with a good vantage to be able to detect boats early on their way into the Oslo Fjord. There was ruthless competition between them, often at risk of life, to reach the ships. The pilots helped bring many boats into safety in port during storms in the Skagerrak.
