U (Los Angeles Railway)
U was a streetcar line in Los Angeles, California. Also referred to as the University Line, it provided service to the University of Southern California. History The Los Angeles Consolidated Electric Railway University Line dates to November 12, 1891, when the Los Angeles Consolidated Electric Railway began operating on tracks run down McClintock Avenue. The route initially terminated at the Los Angeles Santa Fe station. The line came under the ownership of Los Angeles Railway Company in 1895 and was rerouted in Downtown, terminating at Spring and West 2nd Street. F was a streetcar line in Los Angeles, California. It was operated by the Los Angeles Railway from 1911 to 1955. History Fourth Street Line (1898–1911) The Fourth Street Line was originally built by the Los Angeles Traction Company. The first car operated over the line on November 30, 1898 (barely meeting the franchise's terms for operating date), with regular service starting on January 4, 1899. This route ran from a Downtown terminus at 3rd Street and Stephenson Avenue (present-day Traction Avenue) to 1st Street by way of Boyle Heights in the roadways of Stephenson, Merrick Street, 4th Street, and Fresno Street. 3 was the number assigned to two distinct streetcar lines operated by the Los Angeles Railway in Los Angeles, California. Combined, they operated from 1924 to 1947. 1924 alignment The first version of 3 was introduced in 1924, and was coterminous with the original A line. The Los Angeles Railway (also known as Yellow Cars, LARy and later Los Angeles Transit Lines) was a system of streetcars that operated in Central Los Angeles and surrounding neighborhoods between 1895 and 1963. The system provided frequent local services which complemented the Pacific Electric "Red Car" system's largely commuter-based interurban routes. The company carried many more passengers than the Red Cars, which served a larger and sparser area of Los Angeles.
