UWLX
The United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) was a women's lacrosse league in the United States. It was co-founded in Boston, Massachusetts, by Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby of the Play It Forward Sports Foundation, under the ownership of United Women's Sports LLC in a strategic partnership with STX. Penn State women's lacrosse alum and former United States national team player Michele DeJuliis was appointed as the league’s first commissioner. DeJuliis left after the 2016 season to found the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL); Kristan Ash served as the second and final league commissioner. The league comprised four teams: the Baltimore Ride, Boston Storm, Long Island Sound and Philadelphia Force. Long Island won the first two championships and Philadelphia won the third and final championship. 2016 UWLX Season
The 2016 United Women's Lacrosse League season, the first in the history of the UWLX, started on May 28, 2016 and ended with the league championship game on July 31, 2016 in which the Long Island Sound defeated the Boston Storm in a 13-8 final. The first game in league history took place on May 28, 2016 at Goodman Stadium at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Opposing the Baltimore Ride, Long Island prevailed by a 13-12 tally. The team's first-ever goal was scored by McKinley Curro, who would also score the league's first-ever two-point goal. Devon Wills served as the starting goaltender, allowing the first goal in UWLX history to Baltimore's Beth Glaros, while also registering the first win in league history. The Long Island Sound are a United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX) professional women's field lacrosse team based in Long Island, New York. They have played in the UWLX since the 2016 season. In the 2016 season, the four teams in the UWLX played in a barnstorm (sports), barnstorming format, with all four teams playing at a single venue. The Philadelphia Force are a United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX) professional women's field lacrosse team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They have played in the UWLX since the 2016 season. In the 2016 season, the four teams in the UWLX will play on a barnstorming format, with all four teams playing at a single venue. United Women's Sports
United Women's Sports LLC (UWS) is an American professional sports company based in Providence, Rhode Island. Operating women's professional sports leagues as a financially sustainable sports entertainment product, UWS works toward raising awareness of women in sport. The business model for UWS is based on the objective of Play It Forward Sports, which was founded in 2015, aiming to create female leaders through sport. Such goals include providing opportunities for women to work in sports, including disciplines such as Marketing, On-Air, Production, Operations and Finance. Operating expenses for UWS includes administration, player salaries, facilities, game operations, travel/lodging and insurance, among others. Devon Wills
Devon Wills (born March 28, 1984) is an American women’s lacrosse player. Having played with the Dartmouth Big Green at the collegiate level, she would become the first female player to sign a contract with the New York Lizards of Major League Lacrosse. From 2007-13, Wills was a member of the United States national team. In 2016, she became the first-ever draft pick of the Long Island Sound, one of four charter franchises in the United Women's Lacrosse League. Playing career NCAA Named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2003, Wills was also named to the All-Ivy League second-team notice. Wills participated in the 2003 and 2004 NCAA quarterfinals in 2003 and 2004. In 2005, Dartmouth qualified for the national semifinals. In her senior season, Wills was named team captain as the team appeared in the 2006 NCAA national championship game. Liz Hogan
Liz Hogan (born July 1989) is an American women’s lacrosse player. Having played with the Syracuse Orange at the collegiate level, she was named to the US national team for the 2015-16 season. In 2016, she was selected by the Boston Storm as their first-ever selection in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League Draft. Playing career In high school, Hogan recorded 265 saves and posted a .650 save percentage in her senior year. An All-Greater Rochester selection in 2007, she also earned Honorable Mention All-American nods from US Lacrosse in 2006 and 2007. NCAA With the Syracuse Orange women's lacrosse, Hogan was a four-year starter for head coach Gary Gait.
