USTA
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body for tennis in the United States. A not-for-profit organization with more than 700,000 members, it invests 100% of its proceeds to promote and develop the growth of tennis, from the grass-roots to the professional levels. The association was created to standardize rules and regulations and to promote and develop the growth of tennis in the United States. The USTA runs the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center which hosts the US Open every year. The USTA has leagues in most places for adults skill levels between beginner and pro. The USTA also hosts tournaments across the country every weekend for club players or professionals. USTA Tennis On Campus
Tennis on Campus (TOC) is the national collegiate club tennis league operated by the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The league is played on hard courts in World TeamTennis format. 370 colleges throughout the 15 USTA geographical sections nationwide compete in the league. The league's regular season takes place in the fall and spring along with four major tournaments, culminating with the National Championship in Orlando, Florida. Competition format The regular season games are played in tournaments which are hosted by individual universities at their campus tennis facilities or a local tennis center. The matches are played in mixed gender World TeamTennis format which features four separate brackets in tournaments; copper, bronze, silver, and gold in a pool play system. USTA Southern California, formerly known as the Southern California Tennis Association, is one of 17 sections that make up the United States Tennis Association. Each non-profit section represents various geographic locations around North America with the goal to support players and promote the growth of tennis across the United States. USTA Southern California has 40,000 members and more than 2,000 member organizations or tennis facilities. It consists of a staff of 32 and is headquartered on the campus of the University of California Los Angeles in Westwood, California, home of the Los Angeles Tennis Center. USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center
The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is a stadium complex within Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York City, United States. It has been the home of the US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament, played every year in August and September, since 1978 and is operated by the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The facility has 22 courts inside its and 12 in the adjoining park. The complex's three stadiums are among the largest tennis stadiums in the world; Arthur Ashe Stadium tops the global list with a listed capacity of 23,200. When the facility was built in 1978, all 33 courts used the DecoTurf cushioned acrylic surface, as did Court 17, added in 2011. However, in 2020, the court surfaces were replaced with Laykold. The US Open Tennis Championships is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually in Queens, New York. Since 1987, the US Open has been chronologically the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year. The other three, in chronological order, are the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. The US Open starts on the last Monday of August and continues for two weeks, with the middle weekend coinciding with the US Labor Day holiday. New Haven Open At Yale
The Connecticut Open was a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was a WTA Premier Tournament on the WTA Tour until its final edition in 2018. From 2005 through 2010 the tournament was also part of the ATP World Tour 250 series of the ATP Tour. It was held annually at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Connecticut, United States, just before the fourth and last Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open. The Cincinnati Masters or Cincinnati Open (branded as the Western & Southern Open for sponsorship reasons) is an annual outdoor hardcourt tennis event held in Mason, Ohio near Cincinnati. The event started on September 18, 1899, and is the oldest tennis tournament in the United States played in its original city. Tennis was first played in the United States in 1874. In 1881 the National Lawn Tennis Association was founded in order to organize all tennis activities in the country. Traditionally, tennis is played between two people in a singles match, or two pairs in a doubles match.
