USS Nottoway (YT-18)
USS ''Algonquin'', completed as ''El Toro'' in 1891 for the Southern Pacific Railroad's Morgan Line, was a small harbor tug commissioned by the United States Navy 2 April 1898. Renamed ''Accomac'', after Accomac, Virginia, June 1898, renamed ''Nottoway'' in 1918 and, after the Navy adopted alphanumeric hull numbers on 17 July 1920, classified as YT-18, a district tug. On 5 October 1942 the name was cancelled and the tug was simply ''YT-18'' until 1944 when classification was changed to ''YTL-18'', a little harbor tug. Over the years as a Navy tug, from 1898 to 1946, the tug served from Cuba to Boston. The second USS ''Buffalo'' (later AD-8) was an auxiliary cruiser of the United States Navy, and later a destroyer tender. ''Buffalo'' was launched on 31 May 1893 by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, in Newport News, Virginia, as ''El Cid'' for the Southern Pacific Railroad's Morgan Line. She was completed in August 1893 and sold to Brazil and renamed ''Nictheroy''. Delaware Breakwater
The Delaware Breakwater is a set of breakwaters east of Lewes, Delaware on Cape Henlopen that form Lewes Harbor. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 12, 1976. The original and breakwaters were built in 1828. The breakwaters are now included in the National Harbor of Refuge and Delaware Breakwater Harbor Historic District. The stone for the breakwater were quarried from what later became Bellevue Lake in New Castle County. The breakwaters were the first structure of their kind to be built in the Americas. Lightship ''Ambrose'' was the name given to multiple lightships that served as the sentinel beacon marking Ambrose Channel, New York Harbor's main shipping channel. The first lightstation was established south of the Ambrose Channel off of Sandy Hook, New Jersey, in 1823. From 1823 through 1967, several ships served the Ambrose Channel station; each was referred to as Lightship ''Ambrose'' and bore the station's name being painted on her side. In 1906, the lightship serving this station was relocated closer to the center of the Ambrose Channel. The channel is marked by a number of navigation aids (green cans no. 5 and 7 at the northeast entrance, and green gong no. 1, marking low water off the tip of Governors Island). Tidal currents on the channel are rather strong. Ensign (; Late Middle English, from Old French (), from Latin (plural)) is a junior rank of a commissioned officer in the armed forces of some countries, normally in the infantry or navy. As the junior officer in an infantry regiment was traditionally the carrier of the ensign flag, the rank acquired the name. This rank has generally been replaced in army ranks by second lieutenant.
