UNIDO
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) (French: Organisation des Nations unies pour le développement industriel; French/Spanish acronym: ONUDI) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that assists countries in economic and industrial development. It is headquartered at the UN Office in Vienna, Austria, with a permanent presence in over 60 countries. As of April 2019, UNIDO comprises 170 member states, which together set the organization's policies, programs, and principles through the biannual General Conference. UNIDO was established in 1966 by the UN General Assembly to promote and accelerate the industrialization of developing countries, which were emerging from decolonization in record numbers and with little to no industrial base. In 1979 it became one of the 15 specialized agencies of the UN, with its new constitution coming into force in 1985. Kandeh Yumkella
Alhaji Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (born July 5, 1959) is a Sierra Leonean agricultural economist, politician, and the former United Nations Under-Secretary-General and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All. He was also the chief executive officer of the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative. Yumkella is a former Chairman of UN-Energy and a two-term former Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Born in Kambia District of Northern Sierra Leone, Yumkella has a B.Sc. from Njala University; a M.Sc. from the Cornell University; and a Ph.D. in Agricultural economics from the University of Illinois. Li Yong (politician)
Li Yong (; born October 1951) is the former Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Finance of China and the former Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. Biography Li was born in Jining, Shandong, China to Han parents. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1973. Li received a master's degree in economics following his graduation from the Research Institute for Fiscal Science of the Ministry of Finance later that year. From 1985 to 1988 he served as first and second secretary to the United Nations Mission from China, and became Director of the World Bank Ministry of Finance in 1989. He served at this post for a year. Following that, he became an advisor to the World Bank and served under this post until 1996. Gerhard "Gerd" Müller (born 25 August 1955) is a German politician of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria who has served as Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization since 2021.
