The United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) is the National Association for roller derby in the UK. The association was formed in 2010 with 15 member leagues, and was recognized by the British Roller Sports Federation soon after. The UKRDA has a cooperative relationship with the Women's Flat Track Derby Association The Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is the international governing body for the sport of women's flat track roller derby, and association of leagues around the world. The organization was founded in April 2004 as the United Leagues Co ... (WFTDA) and recognises the WFTDA rules and regulations as the universal standard, several of its members are also WFTDA members. The UKRDA is a member-led organisation that exists to promote and lobby for roller derby in the UK, however, unlike the WFTDA, it will admit men's and mixed leagues. London Rockin' Rollers
London Rockin' Rollers (LRR) is a flat-track roller derby league based in London, England. Founded in 2007, the league is a member of both the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) and the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). League History The league was started in 2007, by a group of founding members including Jackie Mason (derby name Jack Attack). At the time, there were only two other roller derby teams in the UK: the London Rollergirls and the Birmingham Blitz Dames. The team participated in the UK's first ever closed-door, interleague scrimmage (practice game) against Birmingham on 1 July 2007. They made history again later in the year when they played the Stuttgart Valley Roller Girlz in Europe's first international bout on 14 October, which they lost 94-71. Birmingham Blitz Dames
Birmingham Blitz Dames (BBD) was a women's flat track roller derby league based in Birmingham in England. Founded in 2006, the league was a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History BBD was founded in October 2006 by American transplant Brenda Bentley (Bee Sting née Iva Issues), who introduced roller derby to the West Midlands. The league was the first to form in the UK outside London, and was originally named the Birmingham Blitz Derby Dames. They took part in Europe's first roller derby tournament, Roll Britannia in 2009, hosted by the London Rollergirls. The tournament featured 12 teams from the UK and Germany, and was held at the historic Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London, England. Bath Roller Derby Girls
Bath Roller Derby is a roller derby league based in Bath, Somerset. Founded in 2012, the league plays to the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) ruleset. The league has been a member of the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) since May 2015. League History The league was founded in 2012 by several local skaters as Bath Roller Derby Girls but rebranded in 2018 and dropped the 'Girls'. They held their first public session in September 2012 and henceforth began holding regular training sessions. Half a year later, the league held their second recruitment intake and numbers begun to increase with a third intake following in November of that year. Belfast Roller Derby
Belfast Roller Derby (BRD) is a flat track roller derby league based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Founded in January 2010, the league consists of two teams that play teams from other leagues, and is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Belfast Roller Derby was founded in 2010, by skater Hannah Whitall ( derby name Hannahbolic Steroids). With increasing interest in the sport throughout the UK, helped by the release of the film '' Whip It'' in 2009, the league was able to arrange training with skaters from Dublin and Glasgow. BRD was the first roller derby league in Northern Ireland, founded six months after Dublin Roller Derby, the first league in Ireland. Auld Reekie Roller Derby (ARRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Founded in 2008, ARRD was the first Scottish Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) member. The league aims to create teams with the ability to compete locally and internationally at the highest levels. ARRD play by the rules of the WFTDA, and were officially accepted as an Apprentice League on 5 October 2010. The league graduated as full members of the WFTDA on 1 September 2011. Brighton Rockers Roller Derby (BRRD) is a flat track roller derby league based in Brighton in East Sussex, England. Founded in 2010, the league consists of three teams, which compete against teams from other leagues. Brighton Rockers is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), and the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association. Bristol Roller Derby (BRD) is a roller derby league based in Bristol. Founded in 2010, the league consists of two women's roller derby teams, a men's team, a Co-Ed team and a fledgling juniors team. History The league was founded early in 2010 by Tuisku Sarrala, Anna Wong, Laura Phillips, Laura Lopez, Maria Cormack, Simone Bennett and Verona. Anna Wong, who had previously played the sport in New Zealand, became the league's head coach for the inaugural year, before returning to New Zealand in January 2011.
