UEFA Euro 1972 Qualifying Group 6
Group 6 of the UEFA Euro 1972 qualifying tournament was one of the eight groups to decide which teams would qualify for the UEFA Euro 1972 finals tournament. Group 6 consisted of four teams: Italy national football team, Italy, Austria national football team, Austria, Sweden men's national football team, Sweden, and Republic of Ireland national football team, Republic of Ireland, where they played against each other home-and-away in a round-robin tournament, round-robin format. The group winners were Italy, who finished three points above Austria. UEFA Euro 1972 Qualifying
The qualifying round for the 1972 European Football Championship consisted of 32 teams divided into eight groups of four teams. Each group winner progressed to the quarter-finals. The quarter-finals were played in two legs on a home-and-away basis. The winners of the quarter-finals would go through, to the final tournament. Giancarlo De Sisti
Giancarlo De Sisti (; born 13 March 1943) is a retired Italian footballer and football manager and midfielder player. Club career Best known by his nickname ''Picchio'', during his club career, De Sisti played for his hometown club A.S. Roma on two occasions (1960–65, 1974–79), and ACF Fiorentina (1965–74), winning several domestic and international titles with both clubs. He made his debut in Serie A with Roma in a 2–1 away defeat to Udinese, on 12 February 1961, in which he observed the team's star player and mentor Juan Alberto Schiaffino during his first spell at the club. He enjoyed his most successful period with Fiorentina, which included a league title in 1969, the club's second overall, before returning to Roma in 1974. He won the Coppa Italia with both clubs, in 1964 and 1966. Jan Viktor Olsson (born 18 March 1944) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He represented GAIS, VfB Stuttgart, and Örgryte IS during a club career that spanned between 1965 and 1977. A full international between 1967 and 1973, he won 22 caps and scored one goal for the Sweden national team and played at the 1970 FIFA World Cup. He was awarded Guldbollen as Sweden's best footballer of the year in 1970. Club career Olsson played for Gais before he became a professional with VfB Stuttgart in 1969. In 1971, he returned to Gais. He is remembered as a rough midfielder and defender. International career In the 1970 FIFA World Cup Olsson marked the Italian forward Gigi Riva with tenacity and vigor. Lansdowne Road Stadium ( ga, Bóthar Lansdún, ) was a stadium in Dublin owned by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) that was primarily used for rugby union and association football matches. The stadium was demolished in 2007 to make way for the Aviva Stadium on the same site, which opened in 2010. The stadium took its name from the adjacent street, Lansdowne Road. Location The stadium was situated in the neighbourhood of Ballsbridge in the city's Dublin 4 area. The stadium had convenient public transport links as the Lansdowne Road station of the Dublin Area Rapid Transit rail system is adjacent to the site and passed directly underneath the West Stand. James Patrick Conway (10 August 1946 – 14 February 2020) was an Irish international association footballer who played professionally in Ireland, England and the United States. He earned 20 caps for the Republic of Ireland national football team, playing mainly as a midfielder, and coached extensively at the professional and collegiate levels in the United States. The Stadio Artemio Franchi is a football stadium in Florence, Italy. It is currently the home of ACF Fiorentina. The old nickname of the stadium was "Comunale." When it was first constructed, it was known as the ''Stadio Giovanni Berta'', after Florentine fascist Giovanni Berta. The stadium was officially opened on 13 September 1931 with a match between Fiorentina and Admira Wien (1–0), though it took until 1932 for the stadium to be completely finished and currently holds 47,282. Pierino Prati (; 13 December 1946 – 22 June 2020) was an Italian footballer who played mainly as a forward. He began his career with Salernitana, and later played for several other Italian clubs, including a successful spell with AC Milan, with whom he won several titles. As of 2022, he is the last person to score a hat-trick in the European cup's final, having done so in 1969, against Ajax Amsterdam. At international level, Prati represented Italy on 14 occasions between 1968 and 1974, scoring seven goals; he was a member of the teams that won UEFA Euro 1968 on home soil, and which reached the 1970 FIFA World Cup Final. Roberto Boninsegna ( born 13 November 1943) is an Italian former football player, who mainly played as a forward. After retiring, he worked as a football manager. As a player, he represented the Italian national side at two World Cups, reaching the final in 1970. Laurens "Lau" van Ravens (18 September 1922 – 23 October 2018) was a Dutch international football referee, who featured at the 1970 FIFA World Cup. He officiated in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, becoming an international referee in 1966.
