UC Berkeley College Of Environmental Design
The College of Environmental Design, also known as the Berkeley CED, or simply CED, is one of fourteen schools and colleges at the University of California, Berkeley. The school is located in Bauer Wurster Hall on the southeast corner of the main UC Berkeley campus. It is composed of three departments: the Department of Architecture, the Department of City and Regional Planning, and the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. CED is consistently ranked as one of the most prestigious design schools in the United States and the world. The Graduate Program in Architecture is currently ranked No. 6 in the world through QS World University Rankings subject rankings. Bernard Maybeck
Bernard Ralph Maybeck (February 7, 1862 – October 3, 1957) was an American architect in the Arts and Crafts Movement of the early 20th century. He was an instructor at University of California, Berkeley. Most of his major buildings were in the San Francisco Bay Area. Biography Maybeck was born in New York City, the son of a German immigrant and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, France. He moved to Berkeley, California, in 1892. He taught engineering drawing and architectural design at University of California, Berkeley from 1894 to 1903, and acted as a mentor for a number of other important California architects, including Julia Morgan and William Wurster. In 1951, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects. Vernon DeMars
Vernon Armond DeMars (February 26, 1908 – April 29, 2005) was an American architect and professor at the UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design. He specialized in Modernist housing projects and public housing complexes. Biography Vernon Armond DeMars was born on February 26, 1908, in San Francisco. As one of the principal members of the group Telesis founded in 1939; and he helped develop what Lewis Mumford called, the Second Bay Tradition, Second Bay Area Regional Style. He, along with Joseph Esherick (architect), Joseph Esherick, designed Wurster Hall, Sproul Plaza and the Student Center at the University of California, Berkeley.
