Scratch Race
A scratch race is a track cycling race in which all riders start together and the objective is simply to be first over the finish line after a certain number of laps. UCI regulations specify that a scratch race should be held over 15 km for Elite Men and 10 km for Elite Women. Shorter distances of 10 km for men and 7.5 km for women may be used for qualifying rounds. Racers line up along the inner sprinter's rail and along the outer railing. The riders take a neutralised lap before the starting pistol is fired for the official start. A lapped rider must leave the race once they are overtaken by the peloton. There are no intermediate points or sprints. One tactic is for a rider, or more often a group of riders, to break away and attempt to gain a lap on the rest of the field. Walter Pérez (cyclist)
Walter Fernando Pérez (born 31 January 1975 in San Justo) is an Olympic gold medal-winning racing cyclist from Argentina. Pérez, who joined the Argentine cycling team in 1992, won the Cycling World Championships in 2004 and Men's Madison gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics with teammate Juan Curuchet. Walter also won two gold medals at the Pan American Games (2003 in Santo Domingo and 2007 in Rio de Janeiro). 2008 UCI Track Cycling World Championships
The 2008 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were the World Championship for track cycling. They took place at the Manchester Velodrome in Manchester, United Kingdom from 26 to 30 March 2008. Eighteen events were scheduled; the women's team pursuit being the only addition from the 2007 championships. As in 2007, the domination of the Great Britain team was clear. Breaking three world records ''en route'', they won eleven medals in total. Indeed, half of the eighteen gold medals on offer were won by the British team. Wong Kam-po
Wong Kam-po SBS MH (, born 13 March 1973) is a Hong Kong racing cyclist. A specialist in road bicycle racing, at age 34 he became a track cycling world champion in the scratch race of the 2007 World Championships, which was not his specialty. Wong Kam-po is a five-time Olympian (the most of any Hong Kong athlete) and much-lauded sports icon. The 2007 UCI Track Cycling World Championships is the World Championship for track cycling. It took place in Palma de Mallorca, Spain from March 29, 2007 to April 1, 2007. Jérôme Neuville (born 15 August 1975 in Saint-Martin d'Hères, Isère) is a French racing cyclist.
