Užava Parish
Užava parish ( lv, Užavas pagasts) is an administrative unit of the Ventspils Municipality, Latvia. The parish has a population of 619 (as of 1/07/2010) and covers an area of 125.518 km2. History The territory of modern Užava parish historically housed Sārnate manor (Gut Sernaten, east of ) and Užava manor (Gut Hasau, Užava). Ventspils Municipality
Ventspils Municipality ( lv, Ventspils novads) is a municipality in Courland, Latvia. The municipality was formed in 2009 by merging Piltene town, Ance Parish, Jūrkalne Parish, Piltene rural community (from 2010 Piltene Parish), Pope Parish, Puze Parish, Tārgale Parish, Ugāle Parish, Usma Parish, Užava Parish, Vārve Parish, Ziras Parish and Zlēkas Parish. It is administered from Ventspils city, which is not included within its limits. The population in 2020 was 10,824. First World War

Ziras Parish
Ziras Parish ( lv, Ziru pagasts) is an administrative unit of the Ventspils Municipality, Latvia.The parish has a population of 543 (as of 1/07/2010) and covers an area of 153.80 km2. History In the territory of modern Ziras parish there were historically Vendzava manor (Gut Wensau, Vendzavas) and Ziru manor (Gut Sirgen, Ziras). In 1935, the area of Ziras Parish in Ventspils District was 90 km² and there were 1227 inhabitants. In 1945, Sise and Zira village councils were established in the parish, but in 1949 the parish was liquidated. The village of Zira belonged to (1949-1956), Ventspils (1956-1962), Kuldīga (1962-1967) and again Ventspils (1967-2009) districts. The liquidated village of Sises was added to Ziru village in 1954. In 1990, the village was reorganized into a parish. In 2009, Ziras parish was included as an administrative territory in Ventspils Municipality. Užava, Latvia
Užava (german: Hasau) is a village in Ventspils Municipality, Latvia. It is the center of Užava Parish. Village is located on the bank of the Užava river by the highway P111 23 km from the municipal center Ventspils and 210 km from Riga. There is an elementary school, a house of culture and a library. ''Užavas Alus'' brewery is located 3 km from the village on highway P111 in direction toward Liepāja. History The settlement is located near the center of the former Užava manor (german: Hasau) and the Lutheran church. In the Russian Empire village belonged to the Windau district, Courland Governorate. The Evangelical Lutheran Church was built in 1783 and renovated in 1892. A Baptist parish was founded in 1861 and a church was built in 1888. This church establishment marks the beginning of the Baptist movement in Latvia. Užava Lowland
Užava lowland is nature park Ventspils Municipality. It is located in the Užava river floodplain Užavas and Ziru parishes, occupies a large part of the currently dysfunctional Užava polder. '' Natura 2000 '' site. Important bird habitat The nature park was established in 2004 and has been recognised as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International because it supports populations of whooper swan (Cygnus cygnus), taiga bean goose ( Anser fabalis), corncrake ( Crex crex) during their migration and nesting. Birds, mainly waterfowl (geese, swans, ducks, gulls), congregate here during spring migration to rest in flooded fields and meadows. During the autumn migration, the concentration of birds in the territory of the nature park was not observed. Parishes Of Latvia
The current administrative division of Latvia came into force on 1 July 2021. On 10 June 2020, the Saeima approved a municipal reform that would reduce the 110 municipalities and nine republic cities to 43 local government units consisting of 36 municipalities (''novadi'') and seven state cities (''valstspilsētas, plural''). On 1 June 2021, the Constitutional Court of Latvia ruled that the annexation of Varakļāni Municipality to Rēzekne Municipality was unconstitutional. In response, the Saeima decided to preserve the existence of Varakļāni Municipality as a 43rd local government unit. Previous municipal reforms after the restoration of Latvian independence were enacted in 2009 and 1990 (when parishes were restored).
