Uzan Group was a Turkish conglomerate owned by Cem Uzan. The group formerly owned (via the Star Media Group) Star TV, which it had founded as the first private broadcaster of the country, Metro FM, and the '' Star'' newspaper it launched in 1999. Cem Uzan
Cem Uzan (born 26 December 1960, İstanbul) is a Turkish businessman and politician involved in the media and banking industries, while also chairing the social liberal Young Party (GP). His family's media empire (Uzan Group) at one time included both television stations and print media. His family was one of Turkey's most influential families. His supporters claim Uzan's political rivalry resulted in the group's companies being seized by the government under Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, eventually resulting in Uzan's flight to France to escape what he claimed was political persecution. Star Media Group (Turkey)
Star Media Group (''Star Medya Grubu'', STAR Medya Yayıncılık A.Ş.) is a Turkish media group. Among other properties it owns the Star newspaper and the television channel Channel 24. The company was co-founded by Ahmet Özal and Cem Uzan and was previously part of the Uzan Holding. In 2004 Star was seized by the Turkish government, along with the other assets of the Uzan Group. The paper was transferred to the TMSF, and then sold several times. It is now again part of the Star Media Group, which was acquired by Nihat Özdemir of Rixos from Ethem Sancak in 2009, with Tevhit Karakaya acquiring 50% in 2010. Star TV is a Turkish nationwide TV channel. It has been owned by Ferit Şahenk's Doğuş Media Group since 2011. History Founded by Cem Uzan and Ahmet Özal in 1989 as Magic Box, Star TV is Turkey's first private TV channel. The channel started its test broadcasting on 5 May 1990.
