Uyanwatta Stadium
Uyanwatta Stadium ( si, උයන්වත්ත ක්රීඩාංගණය , ta, உயன்வத்டா அரங்கம்) is a multi-use stadium in Matara, Sri Lanka. It is situated on the southern tip of Sri Lanka. The Uyanwatte ground is home to Matara Cricket Club. The ground, which has staged `A' internationals and U19 matches, now looks set for a major period of development. History The first cricket in Matara dates back to 28 December 1884 when a Combined Ceylonese Cricket Club played against Matara CC. There was no Matara Cricket Club during this period and the team was made up of a collection of cricketers who played against visiting teams from the other parts of the island. The Matara Cricket Club was actually established in 1904, with the bulk of the side being European tea planters. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is the governing body for cricket in Sri Lanka. It was first registered with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Sports (Sri Lanka), Ministry of Sports as the Board of Cricket for Sri Lanka (BCCSL) on 30 June 1975 as a national sports body. The board was renamed in 2003. Matara Sports Club
Matara Sports Club is a Division III cricket team in Matara, Sri Lanka. It played first-class cricket 1998 to 2001, before being demoted to Division II in 2002, and to Division III in 2014. The Uyanwatte ground is home to Matara Cricket Club. In the parlour of cricket Matara stands for one thing only, the modern master blaster Sanath Jayasuriya. Jayasuriya played his early cricket here, is revered in the area and from 2010 to 2015 was the MP for the Matara district. Wickramasinghe Gallage Pramodya (born August 14, 1971), commonly known as Pramodya Wickramasinghe, is a former Sri Lankan cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm-fast bowler. He was regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in 1990s. He was a member of 1996 Cricket World Cup winning team. Cricket Grounds In Sri Lanka
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket.
