A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. As central midfielders often go across boundaries, with mobility and passing ability, they are often referred to as deep-lying midfielders, play-makers, box-to-box midfielders, or holding midfielders. There are also attacking midfielders with limited defensive assignments. The size of midfield units on a team and their assigned roles depend on what formation is used; the unit of these players on the pitch is commonly referred to as the midfield. Sportverein Darmstadt 1898 e.V., commonly known as Darmstadt 98 (), is a German football club based in Darmstadt, Hesse. The club was founded on 22 May 1898 as FC Olympia Darmstadt. Early in 1919, the association was briefly known as ''Rasen-Sportverein Olympia'' before merging with Darmstädter Sport Club 1905 on 11 November that year to become Sportverein Darmstadt 98. SC Hessen Dreieich is a German association football club from the town of Dreieich, Hesse. The club's greatest success has been promotion to the fourth tier in 2018. History SC Hessen Dreieich was formed on 20 June 2013 to consolidate the local football clubs in the region after cuts in the community budged reduced the support for these by 20 percent. The new club had the support of Hans Nolte, owner of Hahn Air, who invested €2.5 million in a new stadium for the club. The new club took up the league place of the SKG Sprendlingen which had won promotion from the tier seven Gruppenliga to the Verbandsliga Hessen-Süd at the end of the 2012–13 season. A number of local clubs initially complained about the new club, coached by former Bundesliga player Thomas Epp, claiming it was poaching youth and senior players from them.
