Uusimaa (constituency)
Uusimaa is a Constituencies of Finland, Finnish constituency represented in Parliament of Finland, eduskunta. It covers the administrative region of Uusimaa, excluding the capital city of Helsinki, which forms Helsinki (constituency), its own constituency. Uusimaa elects 35 members to eduskunta, which makes it the largest electoral district in the country. Even though the city proper is not part of the constituency, much of the area falls under the Greater Helsinki metropolitan area. The suburban cities Espoo and Vantaa account for half of its population of 1 million. The largest party in the 2011 Finnish parliamentary election, 2011 election was the National Coalition Party, with the Social Democratic Party (Finland), Social Democratic Party second. Constituencies Of Finland
There are thirteen constituencies in Finland, nowadays called electoral districts by the Finnish Parliament. (The English word "constituency" is confusing due to its various meanings.) The citizens of each electoral district elect from 6 to 35 MPs (members of parliament), depending on the population of the district, but 05 Åland only elects one. The boundaries of the electoral districts are based on the province division in use from 1634 to 1997 and has remained basically the same since the first parliamentary election in 1907. In 1939, the constituency of Northern Oulu was divided between the constituencies of Lapland and Oulu. The constituency of Southern Oulu was renamed to Oulu in the process. After the Continuation War, the electoral districts of Eastern and Western Viipuri, which lost much of their territories to the Soviet Union, were united to the new constituency of Kymi. Kimmo Kiljunen (born 13 June 1951) is a Finnish author and politician of the Social Democratic Party. He served in the Finnish parliament from 1995 to 2011. Antti Ilmari Lindtman (born 11 August 1982) is a Finnish politician from the Social Democratic Party. He has been the chairman of the city council of Vantaa since 2009 and a member of the Parliament of Finland for Uusimaa since April 2011. In April 2015, he was elected as the chairman of the Social Democratic Parliamentary Group. In October 2016, it was found out that Lindtman had handed secret lists to the speakers of the Parliament in which he had suggested which MPs from the SDP should get turns to speak in plenary sessions.
