The Utica–Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of two counties in Central New York anchored by the cities of Utica and Rome (both in Oneida County). As of the 2020 census, the MSA had a population of 292,264. Madison County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 68,016. Its county seat is Wampsville. The county is named after James Madison, the fourth president of the United States, and was first formed in 1806. The county is part of the Central New York region of the state. Vienna, New York
Vienna is a town in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 5,440 at the 2010 census. The town is named after the capital of Austria. The Town of Vienna is in the western part of the county. History Vienna was formed out of the town of Camden when it was divided in April 1807. The town's original name was "Orange" but shortly after the town's formation, it was renamed to "Bengal." Eight years later, in 1816, Bengal was renamed to its current name of Vienna. Vernon is a town in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 5,408 at the 2010 census. The Town of Vernon is on the western border of the county. The town contains a village, also named Vernon. History The first European settler was Josiah Bushnell, from Berkshire County, Massachusetts, who came in 1794. Marcy is a town in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 8,777 at the 2020 census. The town was named after Governor William L. Marcy. It lies between the cities of Rome and Utica. The Erie Canal passes through the southern part of the town. The town is home to the SUNY Polytechnic Institute, a four-year public research university in the southeastern part of town. History The first settlers arrived ''circa'' 1773. Ilion is a village in Herkimer County, New York, United States. Located in the Mohawk Valley region, the population was 7,646 at the 2020 census. The village is at the northern edge of the town of German Flatts, though a tiny portion is in the town of Frankfort. It is south of the Mohawk River and Erie Canal. History Ilion is a name for the ancient city of Troy. The area where Ilion is located was first settled by Palatine Germans under the Burnetsfield Patent around 1725. Whitestown is a town in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 18,667 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from Judge Hugh White, an early settler.
