Utarom Airport
Utarom Airport or Kaimana Airport ( id, Bandar Udara Utarom) is an airport serving Kaimana, located in the province of West Papua in Indonesia. Due to increasing passengers, the airport was heavily modernized. The airport development is done in several stages, which begin in 2012, followed in 2014, and was completed at the end of 2015. Currently, Utarom Airport has a modern passenger terminal design like that of Wamena Airport. Airport capacity also increased to be able to accommodate 102 passengers during peak hours. The passenger terminal is made more comfortable in order to improve service to passengers In total, the construction of a passenger terminal covering an area of 1,800 square meters costs around Rp 75.5 billion. The development of the airport was completed at the end of 2015 and was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on 30 December 2016. Kaimana
Kaimana is a small port town in West Papua, Indonesia and capital of the Kaimana Regency. It had a population of 13,613 at the 2010 Census. In March 2007, the Indonesian Navy conducted a training exercise off the coast of Kaimana in Kaimana Bay. Transport It is served by Utarom Airport. Merpati Nusantara Airlines Flight 8968
Merpati Nusantara Airlines Flight 8968 was a passenger flight which crashed off the coast of the Indonesian province of West Papua on 7 May 2011. The aircraft involved, a Xian MA60, was operating Merpati Nusantara Airlines' scheduled domestic service from Sorong to Kaimana, both in West Papua. It crashed into the sea while on approach to Kaimana in heavy rain condition, about before the runway. All 25 people on board the aircraft perished. It was the first fatal crash of the Xian MA60 aircraft. The Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee concluded that the crash was caused by pilot error. During the approach, both pilots were struggling to see the airport due to adverse weather in the area and eventually initiated a go around procedure. However, they did not pay enough attention to the bank angle of the aircraft as both of them were looking out of the window. Domine Eduard Osok Airport
Domine Eduard Osok Airport is an airport in Sorong, Southwest Papua, Indonesia. It is one of the largest and busiest airports on the Bird's Head Peninsula. It replaced a smaller, former World War II airfield, Jefman Airport on the island of Jefman. The airport is named after Domine Eduard Osok, a pastor originating from Sorong and known for doing missionary works and spreading Christianity in Sorong and the surrounding parts. Domine Eduard Osok Airport serves as an entry point to the Raja Ampat Islands, since the Raja Ampat Islands are closer to the city of Sorong than to the provincial capital Manokwari.
