Kariyushi58
Kariyushi58 (かりゆし58, stylized as "kariyushi58" in English) is a Japanese four-man pop group formed in 2005, from Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, and headliner of the Utanohi music festival. The group consists of Maekawa Shingo (vocal and bass), Shinya Yukihiro (guitar), Nakamura Hiroki (drums), Miyahira Naoki (guitar). Their sound contains many elements of traditional Okinawan folk music, Rock, and Reggae. The name is a portmanteau of the Okinawan かりゆし, meaning "harmony" or "happiness", and 58, the number of the local Japanese National Route. Members History In April 2005, Shingo, Yukihiro, and Hiroki formed the group in the Okinawa Prefecture. They made their official debut in February 2006 with the mini album, "Koibitoyo". Seijin Noborikawa
, born in Uruma, Okinawa, was a master Okinawan musician and ''min'yō'' folk singer, and a headliner of the Utanohi music festival. Biography Noborikawa was born to a farming family in Misato Village (now Uruma) in the Nakagami District, Okinawa. From the age of 7, he became familiar with homemade sanshin, watching Mouashibi and learning folk songs. He was able to dance the Kachāshī by 11. He hardly attended school and started smoking at 8 and drinking at 9. After the war ended, he worked at the US military base. At the age of sixteen, Noborikawa joined the Shibai Matsu Theater of Okinawa and sang folk songs. He thoroughly learned sanshin from Itarashiki Asaken and won the "Amateur Singing Competition" of Ryukyuhoso radio together with Rinshō Kadekaru. From 1955, he became a folk singer who performs solo. Okinawan Music
is the music associated with the Okinawa Islands of southwestern Japan. In modern Japan, it may also refer to the musical traditions of Okinawa Prefecture, which covers the Miyako and Yaeyama Islands in addition to the Okinawa Islands. Shima Uta (The Boom Song)
is a 1992 song by the Japanese band The Boom. It was written by the lead singer, Kazufumi Miyazawa, based on his impressions from visiting Okinawa for a photo shoot. It is the band's best selling song, well known throughout Japan and Argentina, and one of the most widely known songs associated with Okinawa although the band members are all from Yamanashi Prefecture. The song uses a mix of modern pop and rock styles as well as min'yō. Okinawan musical instruments and Okinawan vocabulary have been incorporated into the song. The song itself was used in an advertising campaign for the Xi brand awamori. HY is a Japanese rock band formed in 2000 by five high school friends from Okinawa. Their name comes from the initials of their hometown, Higashi Yakena.
