Ogden Canyon
300px, Ogden Canyon, August 2005 Ogden Canyon is a canyon in the Wasatch Range in eastern Weber County, Utah, United States, just east of Ogden. Geography Ogden Canyon is a roughly long canyon with a series of smaller side canyons in the Wasatch Range. It was carved by the long Ogden River. The city of Ogden is at the western end of the canyon, and Pineview Dam is on the eastern end. History Ogden Canyon is named for the Ogden River, which was named for Peter Skene Ogden, a 19th-century Canadian fur trader and explorer. Toll gate The first road through Ogden Canyon was built by Lorin Farr and Isaac Goodale. A toll gate was established in 1860, and from 1865 to 1882 was operated by the Ogden Canyon Road Company. State Route 37 (SR-37) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah, forming a 270° loop through the western part of the Ogden-Clearfield metropolitan area. The route is . When the road was added to the state highway system in 1915 and numbered in 1927, it formed a connection from Ogden to Hooper. However, after a series of changes, SR-37 does not enter Ogden and extends further south to Sunset. Route description SR-37 begins at SR-126 (Main Street) in Sunset, just west of I-15, though the nearest access to the Interstate is more than a mile (1.5 km) away. It first heads west on 1800 North, passing through Clinton and West Point before turning north at 5000 West, which becomes 5900 West when it crosses from Davis County into Weber County. State Highways Deleted By The Utah State Legislature In 1969
A number of minor routes in the U.S. state of Utah were deleted by the State Legislature in 1969. State Route 19 The State Road Commission designated a state highway connecting Cedar City with Lund on August 2, 1912. The purpose was to connect Cedar City with the nearest railroad station, that of the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad (Union Pacific Railroad) at Lund. A connecting road—now known as Gap Road—running west from the county seat at Parowan through Hieroglyphic Canyon (now Parowan Gap) to the Cedar City–Lund road was added to the state highway system on December 21, 1915. In 1919, the state legislature redefined the state highway system to include only a short list of roads and any federal aid projects. The road to Cedar City was kept since it was improved with federal aid, and the road to Parowan was dropped, but restored in 1921. Utah State Route 103 (1965)
State Route 103 (SR-103) is a urban minor arterial state highway in the U.S. state of Utah. It branches off from SR-126 (Main Street) in downtown Clearfield and extends east to Interstate 15 (I-15), with the roadway continuing to the Falcon Hill National Aerospace Research Park, just outside Hill Air Force Base. The entire route is located in Davis County and was formed in 1965 coinciding with the construction of I-15. The western terminus, in a stretch of fourteen years from its inception, has gone from SR-1 in 1965, to SR-106 in 1967, to SR-84 in 1969, and SR-126 in 1979. In 1979, the moniker of the roadway for SR-103 was changed from 600 North to 650 North. SR-103 is one of four Utah state highways that connect to Hill Air Force Base, the others being SR-97, SR-168, and SR-232. It encompassed with its southwest corner located on 12th Street (1200 South) and Tomlinson Road (1200 West).
