Karabo Poppy's Utah Jazz mural is installed in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The mural was painted in 2018. Background Poppy is a designer and artist who has worked extensively with many brands and received acclaim for her work. Prior to painting the mural, Poppy had never been to Utah and only known about the Utah Jazz months prior to beginning her work. She spoke with members of the Utah Jazz in the 2018–19 season such as Ricky Rubio and his Jazz teammates Rudy Gobert, Joe Ingles, and Derrick Favors at the Zions Bank Basketball Campus before finalizing her design and beginning to paint the mural. She found herself drawn to the power of a slam dunk and the creativity of dribbling a basketball. Karabo Poppy
Karabo Poppy Moletsane (born 1992) is a South African illustrator, graphic designer, and street artist. Early life Poppy was born in Vereeniging. She studied at Open Window Institute in Pretoria and has a degree in Visual Communication. Career Poppy has done work for the Wall Street Journal, Google, Coca-Cola, and Nike, including designing shoes worn by LeBron James. She created the graphics for the first African series on Netflix, ''Queen Sono'', and ''When They See Us''. She collaborated with RICH MNISI on a unisex clothing collection, called Running Errands, in 2020. Her Utah Jazz mural is installed in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 2021, she was commissioned by Wikipedia, along with Jasmina El Bouamraoui, to design 101 symbols for the 20th anniversary of Wikipedia. Derrick Bernard Favors (born July 15, 1991) is an American professional basketball player who is currently a free agent. Favors played college basketball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for one season before being selected by the New Jersey Nets with the third overall pick of the 2010 NBA draft. Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Street art is visual art created in public locations for public visibility. It has been associated with the terms "independent art", "post-graffiti", "neo-graffiti" and guerrilla art.
