Ustad & the Divas is a compilation album composed by Sandesh Shandilya, which brings three singers, K. S. Chitra, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Shreya Ghoshal, together with Ustad Sultan Khan. Shreya Ghoshal initially was to sing two songs for Ustad Sultan Khan's album. However, due to time constraints, she had to let go of one, only recording "Leja Leja Re". Sandesh Shandilya is an Indian film composer, musician, and singer, working in Bollywood, most known for his work in films like ''Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'' (2001), '' Chameli'', ''Road'', ''Uff Kya Jadoo Mohabbat Hai and Socha Na Tha''. His 2001 music album '' Piya Basanti'' won the International viewers' choice award at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. His teacher, ''Ustad Sultan Khan'' along with K.S.Chithra sang the song Piya Basanti for him on this album. Sultan Khan (musician)
Ustad Sultan Khan (15 April 1940 – 27 November 2011) was an Indian ''sarangi'' player and classical vocalist belonging to ''Sikar Gharana''. He was one of the founding members of the Indian fusion group Tabla Beat Science, with Zakir Hussain and Bill Laswell. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour, in 2010. Early life Sultan Khan was born on 15 April 1940 in Sikar District, Rajasthan, a princely state in the Indian Empire. He learned sarangi from his father Ustad Gulab Khan. Career Sultan Khan started his career at the All India Radio station, Rajkot in Gujarat as a 20-year-old boy in 1960. After having spent eight years in Rajkot very happily, he got a chance to play with Lata Mangeshkar during her visit to Rajkot. She asked him to play the sarangi while she sang. Sunidhi Chauhan (pronounced ; born 14 August 1983) is an Indian playback singer. Born in Delhi, she began performing in local gatherings at the age of 5 and made her career debut at the age of 13, with the film ''Shastra'' (1996).
