Usharani Ganaison
On the night of 10 November 1977, Usharani d/o Ganaison, a 7-year-old student of Cairnhill Primary School, went missing after she went out of her flat to buy drinks to celebrate Deepavali with her family. About seven hours after her disappearance, she was found murdered nearby the void deck of her flat, and the medical evidence suggested that she had been molested and strangled. Two days after her murder, Usharani's uncle Kalidass s/o Sinnathamby Narayanasamy, a lance corporal of the Singapore Armed Forces, was arrested after a denture mark on Usharani's body was matched to his teeth. Although Kalidass admitted to molesting the girl, he denied killing her intentionally and raised a defence of alcohol intoxication that caused him to be mentally incapable of his actions. However, the trial court found Kalidass mentally sound at the time of the killing, and thus sentenced him to death for murder on 27 March 1980. Lai Kew Chai
Lai Kew Chai (; 7 February 1941 – 27 February 2006) was a Malaysian-born Singaporean judge and the longest-serving member of the Supreme Court Bench, having served for almost 25 years as a Judge. Biography Early life and education Born in Tanjung Malim, Perak, he received his early education at Methodist English School at his hometown in 1950, and at the Methodist Boys' School, Kuala Lumpur in 1955. Lai was an exceptional student in school, excelling as a school captain and in his studies. He received a School Book Prize for best HSC results for his final year examinations in 1961, and from there went on to read law at the University of Singapore in March 1962, with a University Entrance Scholarship. Death Of Winnifred Teo
On the evening of 22 May 1985, 18-year-old Winnifred Teo Suan Lie (张碹丽 Zhāng Xuànlì), then a student of Catholic Junior College, went out for a evening jog as usual, but she never came back. The next morning, Teo's naked body was later found lying in the undergrowth off Old Holland Road, Singapore. She has several stab wounds on her body and was sexually assaulted prior to her death. Autopsy reports showed that Teo was being restrained and she put up a fierce struggle against her killer(s) before her death from excessive blood loss. The brutality of Teo's rape and murder brought great shock across the whole of Singapore in 1985. Although the police extensively investigated the case, the killer(s) were never caught. Death Of Lim Shiow Rong
On 25 June 1995, a six-year-old schoolgirl named Lim Shiow Rong (林秀蓉 Lín Xiùróng) was found dead in a forested area near Jalan Woodbridge, Singapore. Found dead in a semi-sitting position, Lim was later found to be raped and murdered by strangulation. There was a possibility that Lim was murdered by someone known to her and or her family, as according to her mother, Lim told her that she was going to see a friend of her father before leaving her mother's coffeeshop on the night before her body was discovered. The police investigated the case, and also obtained a police sketch of the suspect's face. However, the killer was not caught and the case remains unsolved as of today. The case regained attention 26 years later when the bereaved family appealed for public information to urge police to continue their investigations of Lim's alleged murder, for which the police confirmed they were still investigating the case.
