Georgy Alexeyevich Ushakov (russian: Георгий Алексеевич Ушаков) (17 (30) January 1901 – 3 December 1963) was a Soviet explorer of the Arctic. Ushakov broke new ground when he surveyed and explored Severnaya Zemlya, together with four other Arctic explorers, establishing that it was an archipelago. He was honoured by being named Doctor of Geographic Sciences in 1950. Konstantin Anatolyevich Ushakov (russian: Константин Анатольевич Ушаков; born 24 March 1970) is a Russian retired volleyball player, who was a member of the Men's National Team that won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Simon (Pimen) Fyodorovich Ushakov (Russian: Симон (Пимен) Федорович Ушаков) (1626 – 25 June 1686) was a leading Russian icon painter of the late 17th-century. Together with Fyodor Zubov and Fyodor Rozhnov, he is associated with the comprehensive reform of the Russian Orthodox Church undertaken by Patriarch Nikon. We know almost nothing about the early years of Simon Ushakov. His birth date is deduced from his inscription on one of the icons: ''In the year 7166 painted this icon Simon Ushakov son, being 32 years of age''. At 22 he became a paid artist of the Silver Chamber, affiliated with the Armory Prikaz. The bright, fresh colours and exquisite, curving lines of his proto-baroque icons caught the eye of Patriarch Nikon, who introduced Simon to the tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. Yuri Viktorovich Ushakov (russian: Юрий Викторович Ушаков; born 13 March 1947) is a Russian and former Soviet diplomat who served as the Ambassador of Russia to the United States from 1998 until 2008. Since 2012, he has been an advisor to the President of Russia on foreign policy issues. Ushakov is a graduate of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and was the Russian Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) from 1996 to 1998. Zinovy Markovich Ushakov (Russian: Зиновий Маркович Ушаков; 7 November 1895 – 26 January 1940) was a Soviet police officer who became a notorious torturer during the Great Purge. Career He was born in Kiev province, the son of a carpenter. Ushakov left school at age 13 to work the same trade, but was drafted into the Imperial Russian armed forces in 1916. Arrested for desertion, he escaped after spending 50 days in prison. During the Russian Civil War, he fought as a partisan in Ukraine. He joined the Cheka in Kiev in 1920, and was based in Ukraine until 1934, when he was transferred to Saratov. From February 1935 to December 1936, he was deputy head of the Special Department of the NKVD in the Belorussian Belarus Republic. The average yearly precipitation ranges from at a height of and between and around the highest point of the island's ice cap. Geography Ushakov Island is located close to the region of permanent sea ice midway between Franz Josef Land and Severnaya Zemlya, at the northern limit of the Kara Sea. This island lies close to the limit of permanent ice; it is desolate and subject to severe Arctic storms. Its total area is .
