The Office of State Protection (Polish language, Polish: ''Urząd Ochrony Państwa'' (, UOP) Kancelaria Sejmu, , p. 401) was the intelligence agency of Poland from 1990 to 2002, when it was split into two new agencies. Foundation The UOP was founded on 6 April 1990 as a department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Krzysztof Kozłowski served as the UOP's first chief from 1990 to 1992. The Ministry of Public Security ( pl, Ministerstwo Bezpieczeństwa Publicznego), commonly known as UB or later SB, was the secret police, intelligence and counter-espionage agency operating in the Polish People's Republic. From 1945 to 1954 it was known as the Department of Security (, UB), and from 1956 to 1990 as the Security Service (, SB). The initial UB was headed by Public Security General Stanisław Radkiewicz and supervised by Jakub Berman of the Polish Politburo. UOP Instruction nr 0015/92 was an internal instruction of Urząd Ochrony Państwa issued in October 1992, which allowed the illegal surveillance and, allegedly, the fomenting of the dissolution of those Polish political parties that were in opposition to the Cabinet of the then Prime Minister Hanna Suchocka or to President Lech Wałęsa. After the downfall of Jan Olszewski's Government in June 1992, and following the revelation of a list of secret collaborators with the former Communist Służba Bezpieczeństwa by the Minister of Internal Affairs Antoni Macierewicz, it was alleged that UOP began the prosecution and dissolution of Polish conservative and independent rightist parties, that were demanding lustration in Poland. Jerzy Marian Konieczny (12 September 1950 – 27 July 2020) was a Polish lawyer, civil servant, academic and author. Konieczny served as the Chief of the Urząd Ochrony Państwa (UOP), Poland's former intelligence agency, from 1992 to 1993. He then served briefly as Ministry of Interior (Poland), Minister of the Interior from 1995 to 1996. Biography Konieczny was born on 12 September 1950. Piotr Aleksander Naimski (born 2 February 1951) is a Polish politician and academic who is a Member of the Sejm. He previously served as the Deputy Minister of Economy and the Head of the Office for State Protection. Biography Piotr Naimski was born on 2 February 1951. In 1968, he graduated from the Tadeusz Rejtan High School in Warsaw. He then studied at the University of Warsaw. In 1981 he received a Doctor of Philosophy in natural science.
