Ur Jordens Djup
''Ur jordens djup'' ( en, From the Depths of the Earth) is the fourth full-length Finntroll album. It was released on March 28, 2007. The album is the first to feature vocalist Mathias Lillmåns, who replaced Tapio Wilska in 2006. Unlike in ''Nattfödd'', the lyrics for this album were written by the band's original vocalist, Jan "Katla" Jämsen. This and other factors appear to contribute to a darker, more black metal feel. A music video for " Nedgång" was released in April. Concept The band approached the founding member Jämsen about writing the lyrics for this album. He chose to continue a semi-mythical saga which has been touched upon throughout Finntroll's career. The " kingshaman of the trolls" character Rivfader (Ripfather), was first introduced in their first demo, fittingly titled "Rivfader" (re-recorded for '' Midnattens widunder''), but Jämsen has said that the story truly originated in the song "Födosagan" on the second album, ''Jaktens tid''. Finntroll
Finntroll is a Finnish metal band from Helsinki that combines elements of black metal and folk metal. Finntroll's lyrics are mostly in Swedish, the only exception being the song "Madon Laulu" on ''Visor om slutet''. Finntroll's original singer, Katla, decided to use Swedish over Finnish since he was part of a Swedish-speaking minority in Finland and the sound of the language seemed to better suit the band's "trollish" outfit. Despite several vocalist changes, this tradition has continued. According to band members Vreth and Skrymer, they took their name from an old Finnish legend where Swedish priests coming to Finland had an encounter with a wild-looking man who killed most of their party. The survivors came back bearing the tale of the Finn-Troll. Finntroll's lyrics mainly deal with legends and tales revolving around the fictional troll-king "Rivfader" and the trolls fighting against the Christians who entered their lands and spread their beliefs. Midnattens Widunder
''Midnattens Widunder'' ( en, Midnight Beasts) is the debut studio album by Finnish folk metal band Finntroll. It was released in Finland in 1999 by Spinefarm. Concept The lyrical content of the album follows the story of the legendary Rivfader ("Rip-father"), " king-shaman" of the trollish race, and his war against Christian encroachment of the trollish " North Lands". The trolls gather under the Svartberg ("Black Mountain") around the ancient throne of Rivfader, who then leads them on a war against the "Tribe of Christ". The story acts as an analogy of the conflict between Christians and Pagans in Early Medieval Scandinavia, and many of the concepts appearing in the album are returned to in the band's later work. The character of the Troll-King Rivfader, in particular, is a recurring figure, again taking centre-stage for the band's fourth album, Ur Jordens Djup. Jan Jämsen
Jan Jämsen, better known as Katla, is a Finnish songwriter, former singer, and co-founder and singer in the folk metal band Finntroll. Finntroll In 1997, Katla and Somnium (the future guitarist of Finntroll) founded a band. Later they recruited four more members to form the first Finntroll line-up. In 1998, they recorded the demo ''Rivfader'' and in 1999 their debut album. In 2001, Finntroll recorded their second album, ''Jaktens Tid''. Before they went in to record their third album, guitarist and co-founder Somnium died by falling from a bridge, but they continued and recorded ''Visor om Slutet''. Henri Sorvali
Henri "Trollhorn" Sorvali, born 19 October 1978 in Finland, is the guitarist and keyboardist of the pagan metal band Moonsorrow, and keyboardist for Finntroll. He also played keyboards on a few occasional gigs with The Rasmus in the late 1990s. Besides he was the leader of the folk/ambient project Lunar Womb, which in the end in 1999 was a solo project. He has also played in bands called Thunderdogs and Lakupaavi (a side project done as a joke by members of Moonsorrow), and played as a session musician on Ensiferum's self-titled debut album and Glittertind's mini-album Til Dovre Faller. He currently works as a music producer for Rovio Entertainment. Sorvali gets inspiration from bands like Anthrax, Bal-Sagoth, Bathory, Cannibal Corpse, Darkthrone, Helheim, Maze of Torment, Merciless and Thyrfing.
