''Uptown'' (originally the ''Uptown Gazette'') was an alternative weekly arts and entertainment newspaper in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Like most alternative weekly newspapers in Canada, ''Uptown'' includes articles regarding the arts and entertainment, CD reviews, concert reviews, book reviews and extensive current events listings. However, unlike others in its genre (such as ''Now Magazine'', ''Voir'' and the '' Georgia Straight''), ''Uptown'' generally does not provide any substantial coverage of current issues events apart from occasional columns concerning local news. ''The Uptown Gazette'' originated as an independent newspaper, and its existence has at times been precarious. Briefly in the 1990s, it published a second newspaper, ''Uptown 2''. The ''Winnipeg Free Press'' (or WFP; founded as the ''Manitoba Free Press'') is a daily (excluding Sunday) broadsheet newspaper in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It provides coverage of local, provincial, national, and international news, as well as current events in sports, business, and entertainment and various consumer-oriented features, such as homes and automobiles appear on a weekly basis. The WFP was founded in 1872, only two years after Manitoba had joined Confederation (1870), and predated Winnipeg's own incorporation (1873). The ''Winnipeg Free Press'' has since become the oldest newspaper in Western Canada that is still active. ''Voir'' was a francophone alternative weekly newspaper in Montreal, Quebec, published by Communications Voir. ''Voir'' was founded by Pierre Paquet in November 1986. The first issue of the newspaper was published on 27 November 1986. Later on the newspaper developed various local issues with more targeted content. In 2013, the newspaper dropped from weekly to biweekly publication. On April 29, 2015, it was announced that all shares owned by Paquet were purchased by a group of buyers composed of XPND Capital, a Quebec-based private equity firm, and two members of ''Voirs management team, Michel Fortin and Hugues Mailhot. Starting 2016, it commenced publishing as a free monthly magazine. The Exchange District is a National Historic Site of Canada in the downtown area of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Just one block north of Portage and Main, the Exchange District comprises twenty city blocks and approximately 150 heritage buildings, and it is known for its intact early 20th century collection of warehouses, financial institutions, and early terracotta-clad skyscrapers.
