Arthur Upcott
The Ven Arthur William Upcott , DD, MA (6 January 1857 – 22 May 1922) was an Anglican priest and educationalist. He was born in Cullompton on 6 January 1857 and educated at Sherborne and Exeter College, Oxford. Ordained in 1886, he was Chaplain then Head Master of St Mark's School, Windsor until 1891. He held two further headships: St Edmund's School, Canterbury (1891–1902); and Christ's Hospital ( 1902–1919). Edward Upcott
Edward Robin Upcott (born 29 December 1991) is a five times British acrobatic gymnast champion who was world men's pairs champion in partnership with Doug Fordyce, winning the gold medal in July 2010 in Poland. Before his partnership with Fordyce, Upcott was in partnership with Mark Fyson, who retired in 2009 after the pair had won the bronze medal in the 2008 world championships in Glasgow. With his new partner Adam McAssey, Upcott was awarded the silver medal in the 2012 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships. Upcott came to UK national public attention with his membership of the gymnastic group Spelbound, who rose to fame in 2010, winning the fourth series of '' Britain's Got Talent''. Part of their performance was a spectacular throw of Upcott over the heads of the judges, catching him in the main performance area. Rosemary Firth
Rosemary, Lady Firth (1912 – 9 July 2001) was a British social anthropologist, and wife of Sir Raymond Firth. She specialised in the field of domestic economy. Life Rosemary Firth (née Upcott) was born in 1912. Her father was a distinguished official in the Treasury. She took a Political Economy degree (MA) in Edinburgh in 1935, and then moved to London. She married Raymond Firth in 1936, and accompanied him to Malaya to undertake fieldwork from 1939 to 1940. She focussed on the domestic economy of the female villagers, resulting in the publication of ''Housekeeping among Malay Peasants'' in 1943. She worked as a lecturer in health education at the University of London Institute of Education for many years, whilst continuing her anthropological research interests. Her son Hugh was born in 1946. When her husband was knighted in 1973, Rosemary Firth took the title Lady Firth. She died in 2001. William Upcott
William Upcott (1779–1845) was an English librarian and antiquary. Life Born in Oxfordshire, he was the illegitimate son of Ozias Humphry by Delly Wickens, daughter of an Oxford shopkeeper, called Upcott from the maiden name of Humphry's mother. His father bequeathed to him his miniatures, pictures, drawings, and engravings, as well as correspondence with many leading figures. Upcott was initially a bookseller, at first an assistant of Robert Harding Evans of Pall Mall, and then of John Wright of Piccadilly. While at Wright's shop he attracted the attention of John Ireland, William Gifford, and the writers of the '' Anti-Jacobin'' who met there, and he witnessed the scuffle there between Gifford and John Wolcot, helping to eject Wolcot. When Richard Porson was made librarian of the London Institution, Upcott was appointed as his assistant (23 April 1806), and he continued in the same position under William Maltby.
