''Untitled #23'' is the 23rd album by the Australian alternative rock band The Church (band), The Church, released in March 2009. It was their 23rd Australian album-length collection of original studio recordings, counting the four outtakes albums (''A Quick Smoke at Spot's'', ''Parallel Universe'', ''Beside Yourself'' & ''Back with Two Beasts''), the covers album ''A Box of Birds'' and the acoustic albums ''El Momento Descuidado'' & ''El Momento Siguiente''. The album was released on the band's own label, MGM Distribution, Unorthodox Records, in Australia and on Second Motion Records in North America. Praised for its moody yet strong songwriting, it has yielded some of The Church's best reviews of their career, including a 5 star review from Australia's Rolling Stone. The album is rare among the band's catalogue in that all of the lead vocals are sung by Kilbey. The Church (band)
The Church are an Australian Rock music, rock band formed in Sydney in 1980. Initially associated with New wave music, new wave, neo-psychedelia, and indie rock, their music later came to feature slower tempos and surreal soundscapes reminiscent of dream pop and post-rock. Glenn A. Baker has written that "From the release of the 'She Never Said' single in November 1980, this unique Sydney-originated entity has purveyed a distinctive, ethereal, psychedelic-tinged sound which has alternatively found favour and disfavour in Australia." The ''Los Angeles Times'' has described the band's music as "dense, shimmering, exquisite guitar pop". The founding members were Steve Kilbey on lead vocals and bass guitar, Peter Koppes and Marty Willson-Piper on guitars, and Nick Ward on drums. ''Back With Two Beasts'' is the nineteenth album (and fourth collection of outtakes) by the Australian psychedelic rock band The Church, released in November 2005. The material was recorded during the ''Uninvited, Like the Clouds'' sessions but released first, as a teaser for that album, and was originally only available from the band's website or at their gigs. It was re-released by Unorthodox Records in 2009. The title is a play on the euphemism for sexual intercourse, "the beast with two backs", to which both of the track titles on the band's previous self-released album, '' Jammed'', also referred. Electone is the trademark used for electronic organs produced by Yamaha Corporation, Yamaha. Cactus World News are an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in April 1984. Founded by Frank Kearns (guitar) and Eoin McEvoy (vocals), the first full stable lineup also included Wayne Sheehy (drums) and Fergal MacAndris (bass). They reformed in 2011 with a new lineup of Kearns, Sheehy and MacAndris, with Eoin Scott and Eoin Watkins. Their early influences were the Clash, Ramones, Talking Heads, U2, the Waterboys and R.E.M. Marty Willson-Piper
Marty Willson-Piper (born 7 May 1958) is an English guitarist and singer-songwriter best known as a former long-time member of the Australian psychedelic rock band The Church. He joined in 1980 after seeing an early gig where they were performing as a three-piece. He was an integral member of the band for 33 years. He was also the guitarist for the English alternative rock band All About Eve from 1991 to 1993 and again from 1999 to 2002. He has also worked with Swedish progressive rock band Anekdoten. Early life Willson-Piper was born in Stockport, Cheshire, on 7 May 1958 and grew up as a teenager in Thingwall. He has a brother and an adopted sister. When he was 3 years old the family moved from Compstall where his parents had a pub called The Commercial. Tim Powles
Timothy Guy Gerard Powles (born 21 December 1959) is a New Zealand music producer and artist. Also known as "timEbandit" Powles, his main instrument and first love was the drums and percussion in general, though over time he's become a dab hand on a medium-sized pile of instruments and gadgets, not to mention the studio itself- and virtual instruments as they occur. Peter Koppes
Peter Koppes (born 21 November 1955) is an Australian guitarist, best known as a founding and almost-continuous member of the independent rock band The Church. He is a multi-instrumentalist, also playing mandolin, drums, piano, and harmonica. He has also released various solo albums and various recordings with his group The Well (1989-1995). Koppes lives on the Australian Central Coast in NSW but sometimes spends time on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland where he sometimes produces albums and has previously conducted seasonal 'song writing' and 'performance for demo recording' short courses at Nambour TAFE, as well as offering private tuition in guitar, bass, drums and song writing. Steven John Kilbey (born 13 September 1954) is an English Australians, English-Australian singer-songwriter and bass guitarist for the rock band The Church (band), the Church. He is also a music producer, poet, and painter. As of 2020, Kilbey has released 14 solo albums and has collaborated on recordings with musical artists such as Martin Kennedy, Stephen Cummings and Ricky Maymi as a vocalist, musician, writer and/or producer. Ian McFarlane writes that "Kilbey's solo recordings [are] challenging and evocative. ''Starfish'' is the fifth album by the Australian rock band The Church, released in February 1988 by Mushroom Records in Australia and by Arista Records internationally. The band's international breakthrough album, ''Starfish'' went gold in America and has remained their most commercially successful release. The album sold 600,000 copies in the United States alone. The first single, "Under the Milky Way", charted on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, peaking at #24, and at #2 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, leading to significant exposure of the then relatively underground Australian act. ''Priest=Aura'' (styled as ''priest=aura'') is the eighth album by the Australian alternative rock band The Church, released in March 1992. It peaked at No. 25 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Background After touring their previous album, ''Gold Afternoon Fix'' (1990), with new drummer Jay Dee Daugherty (Patti Smith Group), The Church returned to Sydney's Studios 301 to commence work on new material. With lowered commercial expectations and less pressure from Arista Records, the atmosphere was more relaxed than the fraught L.A. sessions for their previous two albums. Bringing in British producer Gavin MacKillop (Barenaked Ladies, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Straitjacket Fits) to supervise the sessions, the band began to improvise the framework for the next set of songs. ''El Momento Siguiente'' is the 21st album by the Australian psychedelic rock band The Church and their second in the Liberation Acoustic Series, following 2005's ''El Momento Descuidado''. The title translates from Spanish as "The Following Moment." The album, released in February 2007, consists of newly recorded acoustic versions of previously released songs, plus three new compositions and a cover of the Triffids' "Wide Open Road". It was reissued in 2009 on the band's own Unorthodox Records label. El Momento Descuidado
''El Momento Descuidado'' (a Spanish rendering of "''The Unguarded Moment''") is the eighteenth album by the Australian psychedelic rock band The Church, released in November 2004. The album followed the outtakes compilation ''Beside Yourself'' by only a month. This time, the band decided to revisit past material in an all-acoustic setting, along with five new songs. For the first time in years, they performed " The Unguarded Moment" (albeit in strongly modified form), an early hit from which they had long distanced themselves. As a nod to the song's reappearance, they titled the album ''El Momento Descuidado'' - a rough Spanish translation of its name. A short all-acoustic tour followed the release in late 2004. The album was nominated for an 2005 ARIA Music Award for Best Adult Contemporary album, but it lost to The Go-Betweens' ''Oceans Apart''.
