Unter Den Linden (Berlin U-Bahn)
Unter den Linden is an U-Bahn station in the central Mitte district of Berlin, at the intersection of Unter den Linden and Friedrichstraße. It is an interchange station between the U5 and U6 U-Bahn lines. Overview The U5 line from Hönow in part crosses the historic city centre to the Berlin Hauptbahnhof terminus. Construction of the Unter den Linden station began on 1 July 2012 as part of an extension from Alexanderplatz, necessitating a break in service on the U6 line. the U5 extension opened in 2020, but work on the U6 line had already been completed by October 2013. The new T-shaped transfer station replaces the nearby U6 station at Französische Straße, which has since been closed. Berlin Hauptbahnhof () (English: Berlin Central Station) is the main railway station in Berlin, Germany. It came into full operation two days after a ceremonial opening on 26 May 2006. Berlin Brandenburger Tor (in German ''Bahnhof Berlin Brandenburger Tor'') – formerly Berlin Unter den Linden (1936-2009) – is an underground railway station in the central Mitte district of Berlin, Germany, located on the Unter den Linden boulevard near Hotel Adlon, Pariser Platz and Brandenburg Gate. It is served by the Berlin S-Bahn and U-Bahn, as well as local bus lines. Overview The station opened on 27 July 1936 in the course of the building of the ''Nord-Süd Bahn'' tunnel. Französische Straße (Berlin U-Bahn)
Französische Straße was a Berlin U-Bahn underground station on the line located under the street Friedrichstraße in central Berlin. This station was built by Grenander/Fehse/Jennen and opened in 1923. In 1945 it closed for a few months; it was permanently closed in 1961. During the Cold War (1961–1990), the station became a ghost station. The station was closed to passenger traffic, and the underground trains of the West Berlin BVG passed the island platform in East Berlin slowly without stopping. In 1990, after the Berlin Wall fell, the station became accessible again. In 1995, the platform had to be lengthened by so that the longer, six-car trains could stop there. Friedrichstraße
The Friedrichstraße () (lit. ''Frederick Street'') is a major culture and shopping street in central Berlin, forming the core of the Friedrichstadt neighborhood and giving the name to Berlin Friedrichstraße station. It runs from the northern part of the old Mitte district (north of which it is called Chausseestraße) to the Hallesches Tor in the district of Kreuzberg. This downtown area is known for its expensive real estate market and the campus of the Hertie School of Governance. Unter Den Linden
Unter den Linden (, "under the linden trees") is a boulevard in the central Mitte district of Berlin, the capital of Germany. Running from the City Palace to Brandenburg Gate, it is named after the linden (lime in England and Ireland, not related to citrus lime) trees that line the grassed pedestrian mall on the median and the two broad carriageways. The avenue links numerous Berlin sights, landmarks and rivers for sightseeing. U6 (Berlin U-Bahn)
U6 is a Berlin U-Bahn line, long line with 29 stations. It runs in a north-south direction from the Berlin locality of Tegel in the north via Friedrichstraße to Mariendorf, a locality in the southern part of the city. It is a so-called large profile ("Großprofil") line. During the Cold War, both U6 termini were in the former West Berlin but the line passed under East Berlin for a short section of its route. Five of its stations were sealed off by East German authorities and the trains went through these so-called “ghost stations” without stopping, while a sixth, Friedrichstraße, remained open primarily as a transfer station between the U6 and the S-Bahn lines using the north-south S-Bahn tunnel, but also as an official border crossing between East and West Berlin.
