Arrested Development (hip Hop Group)
Arrested Development is an American hip hop musical ensemble, group that formed in Atlanta in 1988. It was founded by Speech (rapper), Speech and Headliner (DJ), Headliner as a positive, Afrocentrism, Afrocentric alternative to the gangsta rap popular in the late 1980s. Baba Oje and frontman Speech (rapper), Speech met at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee when they were both students. Baba Oje was 57 years old at the time. History Arrested Development was formed in 1988 by rapper and producer Todd Thomas ("Speech (rapper), Speech") and turntablism, turntablist Timothy Barnwell (known as Headliner (DJ), Headliner). ''The Village Voice'' is an American news and culture paper, known for being the country's first alternative newsweekly. Speech (rapper)
Todd Thomas (born October 25, 1968), better known by the stage name Speech, is an American rapper and musician. He is a member of the progressive hip hop group Arrested Development and has released a number of solo albums. Background He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and spent his childhood years there and in Ripley, Tennessee, before relocating to Georgia in 1987 to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta. He attended Rufus King High School and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His first rap group, Attack, was active from 1984 until 1986. He also DJ'd at a popular teen club called the Fox Trap along with other guest DJs. Brandon K. Ross is an American jazz guitarist. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Career Ross did clerical work for Leroy Jenkins before playing with Archie Shepp and Marion Brown in the second half of the 1970s. He has performed with Wadada Leo Smith, Gene Lake, Marcus Rojas, John Lurie, Henry Threadgill, Don Byron, and Cassandra Wilson. In 1998, Ross, bassist Melvin Gibbs, and drummer J.T. Timothy Barnwell (born July 26, 1967, in New Jersey), better known by the stage name Headliner, is an American DJ and businessman.
