Unión De Jóvenes Comunistas
The Young Communist League ( es, Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas, UJC) is the youth organization of the Communist Party of Cuba. Its membership is voluntary and selective, and counts more than 600,000 active members. Its symbol shows the stylized faces of Julio Antonio Mella, Camilo Cienfuegos and Che Guevara. The motto is ''Estudio, Trabajo, Fusil'' and means "Study, Work, Rifle". History The Cuban Young Communist League came into existence along with the Communist Party of Cuba in 1965. Organization Yuniasky Crespo Baquero is the First Secretary of the organisation. The UJC is a member organization of the World Federation of Democratic Youth. The 11th and 14th World Festival of Youth and Students were hosted in Cuba by the organization. The UJC publishes the daily newspaper ''Juventud Rebelde'' (''Rebellious Youth'') throughout Cuba. José Martí Pioneer Organization
José Martí Pioneer Organization ( es, Organización de Pioneros José Martí - OPJM) is a Cuban youth organization established in 1961, created as a replacement for the banned Asociación de Scouts de Cuba. The organization gets its name from Cuban writer and national hero José Martí. Overview The José Martí Pioneer Organization groups primary and secondary students, until 9th grade. The initiation takes place with a traditional act of giving a neckerchief, blue or red depending on the student's level; from that moment it forms a part of the scholastic uniform. In high school the neckerchief is replaced by a badge consisting of the bars with colors of the national flag and to the right, Che's signature; the symbol measures approximately 1.5 cm by 10 cm, in some cases is the symbol of the high school, and sewn directly on the white uniform shirt. World Festival Of Youth And Students
The World Festival of Youth and Students is an international event organized by the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) and the International Union of Students after 1947. History The festival has been held regularly since 1947 as an event of global youth solidarity for democracy and against war and imperialism. The largest festival was the 6th World Festival of Youth and Students, 6th, held in 1957 in Moscow, when 34,000 young people from 131 countries attended the event. Camilo Cienfuegos
Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán (; 6 February 1932 – 28 October 1959) was a Cuban revolutionary born in Havana. Along with Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Juan Almeida Bosque, and Raúl Castro, he was a member of the 1956 ''Granma (yacht), Granma'' expedition, which launched Fidel Castro's armed insurgency against the government of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. He became one of Castro's top guerrilla commanders, known as the "Battle of Yaguajay, Hero of Yaguajay" after winning a key battle of the Cuban Revolution. His signature weapons were a Thompson submachine gun, M1921AC Thompson and a modified M1 carbine, M2 carbine. He was appointed head of Cuba's armed forces shortly after the victory of Castro's rebel army in 1959. Julio Antonio Mella
Julio Antonio Mella McPartland (25 March 1903 – 10 January 1929) was a Cuban political activist and one of the founders of the original Popular Socialist Party (Cuba), Communist Party of Cuba. Mella studied law at the University of Havana but was expelled in 1925. He was working against the government of Gerardo Machado, which had grown increasingly repressive. Mella left the country, reaching Central America. He traveled north to Mexico City, where he worked with other exiled dissidents and communist sympathizers against the Machado government. He was assassinated in 1929, but historians still disagree on which parties were responsible for his death. The 21st century Cuban government regards Mella as a communist hero and martyr.
