The União dos Escoteiros do Brasil (UEB, ''Union of Brazilian Scouts'') is the national Scouting organization of Brazil. Scouting in Brazil was founded in 1910 and was among the charter members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1922. The União dos Escoteiros do Brasil itself was founded in 1924; it has 53,055 members as of 2011. The association is a member of the Comunidade do Escutismo Lusófono (Community of Lusophone Scouting). Scouting in Brazil is very popular in cities and suburban areas. Scouts from Brazil attend world and regional events in large numbers. They were well represented at the 1998 World Jamboree with 3,000 participants. World Organization Of The Scout Movement
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM ) is the largest international Scouting organization. WOSM has 173 members. These members are recognized national Scout organizations, which collectively have around 43 million participants. WOSM was established in 1922, and has its operational headquarters at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and its legal seat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the counterpart of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The WOSM's current stated mission is "to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Scout Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society". Lieutenant-General Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell, ( ; (Commonly pronounced by others as ) 22 February 1857 – 8 January 1941) was a British Army officer, writer, founder and first Chief Scout of the world-wide Scout Movement, and founder, with his sister Agnes, of the world-wide Girl Guide / Girl Scout Movement. Oscar Victor Palmquist Arias of Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil (born December 6, 196 was one of 12 elected volunteer members of the World Scout Committee, the main executive body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, Vice Chairman of the World Scout Conference "Curitiba-Brazil 2011" Organizing Committee and member of the International Relations Committee. Caio Vianna Martins
Caio Vianna Martins (1923–1938) is a famous Scout and a Brazilian national hero. In the early hours of December 19, 1938, Martins was travelling with a group of Scouts from Belo Horizonte to São Paulo, when their passenger train collided head-on with a freight train near the city of Barbacena, resulting in many injuries and approximately 40 deaths. The Scouts worked through the night to assist the wounded until help began to arrive after dawn. Martins was struck in the back during the collision and suffered internal injuries. When rescue workers arrived and began carrying the wounded to the city on stretchers, Martins refused, saying that there were many other wounded who needed assistance more than he, and that "A Scout walks on his own leg." Accompanied by several friends, Martins walked to the city, but died of his injuries on December 20. The Federação de Bandeirantes do Brasil (FBB, ''Girl Guide Federation of Brazil'') is the national Guiding organization of Brazil. It serves 6,201 members as of 2003. Founded in 1919, the coeducational organization became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1930. The Scout method is the informal educational system used in the Scouting Movement. The aim of Scouting is character training with the goal of helping participants become independent and helpful, and thereby become "healthy, happy, helpful citizens". The Scout method uses appealing games in the primitive outdoors to generate challenges which a Scout learns to solve by themselves. Through the training and the example of the leader, Scouts are taught independence, leadership, the ambition to learn by themselves, and a moral code with positive goals. Scouting, also known as the Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth movement employing the Scout method, a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports. Air Scout
Air Scouts are a part of the Scout movement with a particular emphasis on an aviation themed programme and/or flying-based activities. Air Scouts follow the same basic programme as other Scouts, but they devote certain amounts of time focused on their air activities. Air Scouts often wear a slightly different uniform from the rest of the Scouting movement and/or may have additional badges/insignia. Most air activities are ground-based like visits to airports and air museums, radio controlled model flight, aero modelling and camping on airfields. Sea Scout
Sea Scouts are a part of the Scout movement, with a particular emphasis on boating and other water-based activities on the sea, rivers or lakes (canoeing, rafting, scuba, sailboarding). Sea Scouts can provide a chance to sail, cruise on boats, learn navigation, learn how to work on engines and compete in regattas. Sea Scouts often have distinctive uniforms.
