University Of Seychelles
University of Seychelles, informally also called UniSey, is the primary institution of higher education in Seychelles. It was established on 17 September 2009. There are three campuses: the main campus at Anse Royale, the Mont Fleuri campus offering education, communication, and technology programs, and the Ma Joie campus offering business programs. In 2014, the university announced a partnership for collaboration and student exchanges with Gibraltar, which is developing its own first university. The university also participates in the Commonwealth of Learning and the Pan-African e-Network project. Wavel Ramkalawan
Wavel Ramkalawan (born 15 March 1959) is a Seychellois politician and Anglican priest who has been serving as the president of Seychelles since 26 October 2020. Ramkalawan was an opposition MP from 1993 to 2011 and 2016 to 2020. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition from 1998 to 2011 and 2016 to 2020. On 25 October 2020, Ramkalawan won the presidential election, the country's first such victory for an opposition candidate since independence, marking its first successful peaceful transition of power. Rolph Antoine Payet FRGS (born 4 August 1968) is an international policy expert, researcher and speaker on environment, climate and island issues, and was the first President & Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles. He was Minister of Environment and Energy in the Cabinet of Seychelles from 2012 to 2014. He is currently United Nations Executive Secretary for the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Convention. Education in Seychelles is free and compulsory from the ages of 6 to 15. The language of instruction is Creole from ages 6 to 10, and then English is gradually introduced as the language of instruction, with French introduced as a foreign language. Justin Davis Valentin (born 14 April 1971) is a Seychellois politician and teacher. In 2018, he was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles. As of 3 November 2020, he serves as the Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, succeeding Jeanne Siméon. Biography Valentin received his diploma in education from Seychelles Polytechnic. He continued his studies in Australia, and graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the Edith Cowan University, followed by a master's degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia, and a doctorate from King's College London. Marina Fatima Confait is a Seychellois retired civil servant. She served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles from March 2012 to February 2014, and as Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2019 to 2021. Biography Confait's first role was in January 1977 as a secondary school teacher. She went on to work in a variety of ministries. James Alix Michel, GCSK (born August 16, 1944) is a Seychellois politician and the former President of Seychelles from year 2004 to 2016. He previously served as Vice-President under his predecessor, France-Albert René, from 1996 to 2004. Michel was initially a teacher, but later he became involved in the archipelago's booming tourism industry and joined René's political party before independence in 1976. Joëlle Perreau (born 10 June 1974) is a Seychellois linguist who has served as the 5th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles since 1 January 2021. Career After finishing secondary school, Perreau completed her two years of national service on Ste. Anne Island and in Port Launay (Mahé Island). She then studied for her O-Levels and A-Levels at the Seychelles Polytechnic in Anse Royale.
