The University of West Bohemia ( cs, Západočeská univerzita v Plzni, ZČU) is a university in Plzeň, Czech Republic. It was founded in 1991 and consists of nine faculties. History The university was formed by the merger of the ''College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering'' and the ''Faculty of Education in Plzeň''. The College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was established in 1949 as a part of the Czech Technical University in Prague. It became an independent School in 1953. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering were formed in 1960. The Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Economics were formed in 1990. The Faculty of Education was formed in 1948 as a Plzeň subsidiary of the Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague. Plzeň (; German and English: Pilsen, in German ) is a city in the Czech Republic. Czech Republic
The Czech Republic, or simply Czechia, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. The University of West Bohemia Rector election, 2014 was held on 19 November 2014. The incumbent Rector Ilona Mauritzová sought reelection but was defeated by Chairman of the ''Research Center New Technologies'' Miroslav Holeček. Justin Quinn
Justin Quinn (born 1968 in Dublin) is an Irish poet and critic. He received a doctorate from Trinity College, Dublin, where his contemporaries included poets David Wheatley, Caitriona O'Reilly and Sinéad Morrissey, and now lives with his wife and sons in Prague. He is a lecturer at Charles University and the University of West Bohemia. Brad Vice
Brad Vice (born November 14, 1973) is an English language and composition professor at the University of West Bohemia. He grew up in Alabama. His short story collection, ''The Bear Bryant Funeral Train'', won the Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction from the University of Georgia Press, but the award was later rescinded and the book recalled after portions of the story were alleged to be plagiarized from an earlier work by Carl Carmer. Academics still disagree on whether this was really an instance of plagiarism; in 2013, it became apparent that Vice had been one of the victims of a minor writer turned Wikipedia editor.
