The University of the Philippines Film Institute, also known as the UP Film Institute or UPFI, is a film school located in Quezon City, Philippines. It is attached to the UP College of Mass Communication and engages in theater and extension services, academics, and research related to cinema. The UPFI offers degree programs in the bachelor's and master's level. Officially established in March 2003 through a resolution by the UP Board of Regents, the UPFI formally unifies two previously separate constituents of the University of the Philippines Diliman: the UP Film Center and the Department of Film and Audio-Visual Communication of the College of Mass Communication. Dan Wolman
Dan Wolman (born October 28, 1941) is an Israeli filmmaker and lecturer in film studies. Biography Dan Wolman was born in Jerusalem, in what was then the British Mandate of Palestine. His father was Moshe Wolman, a pioneering physician. He spent part of his childhood in Ethiopia. After completing high school, Wolman served in the Nahal Brigade of the Israel Defense Forces. He studied film at the Film Institute of City College New York between 1962 and 1965 and at the New York University film department between 1965 and 1968. Academic and film career In 1974 and 1978 Wolman taught at the School of Visual Arts and at New York University. In 1981 he taught screenwriting and production at Tel Aviv University. Super 8 Film
Super 8 mm film is a motion-picture film format released in 1965 by Eastman Kodak as an improvement over the older "Double" or "Regular" 8 mm home movie format. The film is nominally 8 mm wide, the same as older formatted 8 mm film, but the dimensions of the rectangular perforations along one edge are smaller, which allows for a greater exposed area. The Super 8 standard also allocates the border opposite the perforations for an oxide stripe upon which sound can be magnetically recorded. Unlike Super 35 (which is generally compatible with standard 35 mm equipment), the film stock used for Super 8 is not compatible with standard 8 mm film cameras. Ateliers Varan
Ateliers Varan is an association of filmmakers based in Paris, France, whose primary work is running non-academic hands-on courses in documentary filmmaking both in France and across the world. Founded in 1981 with the spirit and support of Jean Rouch, it has trained generations of documentary filmmakers in places ranging from Vietnam to Kenya, Serbia, Georgia and Afghanistan.
