University Of Southern California School Of Dentistry
The Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry is the dental school of the University of Southern California. It was established in 1897 as simply the "University of Southern California School of Dentistry," and graduated its first class of 11 students in 1900. In 2010, the school was renamed after a $35 million donation by a USC alumnus, and the school was renamed for its benefactor, Herman Ostrow. Dr. Ostrow was a School of Dentistry of USC alumnus who graduated in 1945. He practiced with the profession of dentistry for 17 years before getting into real estate development in the Los Angeles area, where he made most of his earnings. The Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry offers online dental master's degrees and certificate programs in Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Radiology, Geriatric Dentistry, Community Oral Health, and a Pain Medicine program in partnership with the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Reed Holdaway
Reed Holdaway (June 7, 1917 – February 28, 2009) was an American orthodontist who is known for developing the Holdaway soft tissue analysis. He was past president of the American Board of Orthodontists and Rocky Mountain Association of Orthodontists. Life He was born on June 7, 1917, in Vineyard, Utah. His parents were Elmer and Mary Ellen Holdaway. He then went to primary school in the same town and attended Lincoln High School in Orem, Utah. He attended the University of Utah for his college degree and then went to University of Southern California Dental College in 1936 to obtain his dental degree. He eventually became interested in orthodontics and studied with Roscoe Keedy of Grand Junction, Colorado. John Alexander Somerville
John Alexander Somerville, D.D.S. (1882 – February 11, 1972) was an African American Civil rights activist, dentist, and entrepreneur. A well-known community figure in Los Angeles, Somerville was an accomplished dentist who went on to co-found the Los Angeles branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He is most well known for building Hotel Somerville, now known as Dunbar Hotel. Early life and education John Alexander Somerville was born in Jamaica in 1882 to Thomas G. Somerville and Frances A. Jørgen Slots is a Danish-born periodontist notable for his contributions to the field of periodontology. He is currently professor of periodontology and microbiology at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, and served as chairman of periodontology from 1991 to 2001.
