University Of Labé
The University of Labé (UL) is a public higher education institution in Guinea, located in Hafia in the Labé Prefecture. It operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Location The University of Labé is situated 22 km from the urban commune of Labé, 18 km from the Pita Prefecture, and 17 km from the sub-prefecture of Timbi-Madina. The university spans 180 hectares, distributed among the rural communes of Hafia, Garambé, and Dara-Labé. History The University Center of Labé was established on 5 September 2001 along with the University of Nzérékoré. It was renamed the University of Labé on 21 October 2016. Labé
Labé ( Pular: 𞤂𞤢𞤦𞤫) is the main city and administrative capital of the Fouta Djallon region of Guinea. It has a population of about 200,000. It is the second largest city in the country after the capital Conakry in terms of economic importance. Labé is situated some northeast of Conakry close to the geographic centre of Guinea. History The city was founded in the 1720s by the Yalunka people and named for their chief, Manga Labé. It developed as a major trade center linking the Niger river to the Atlantic coast. The city was the capital of the Diwal/province of Labe within the Imamate of Futa Jallon prior to French colonisation.
