The University Hospital Association, formerly the Association of UK University Hospitals, is a leadership body for university hospitals in the UK established in 1998. Its main focus is in teaching and research. It has offices at Woburn House, Tavistock Square, London the headquarters of Universities UK. Katie Petty-Saphon is its chief executive. Membership The association is a membership organisation made up of 41 UK university hospitals represented by their hospital chief executives. It also incorporates six sub-groups that meet to respond to developments and challenges facing university hospitals from the perspective of their specific role. Tavistock Square
Tavistock Square is a public square in Bloomsbury, in the London Borough of Camden. History Tavistock Square was built shortly after 1806 by the property developer James Burton and the master builder Thomas Cubitt for Francis Russell, 5th Duke of Bedford, and formed part of the Bedford Estate in London, owned by the Dukes of Bedford. The square takes its name from ''Marquess of Tavistock'', a courtesy title given to the eldest sons of the Dukes of Bedford. In 1920 the Tavistock Clinic was founded in the square, a pioneering psychiatric clinic whose patients included shell-shock victims of the First World War. In 1946 the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations separated from the Tavistock Clinic. The Tavistock Clinic has since moved to Swiss Cottage. Universities UK (UUK) is an advocacy organisation for universities in the United Kingdom. It began life in the early 20th century through informal meetings of vice-chancellors of a number of universities and principals of university colleges and was previously known as the ''Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals of the Universities of the United Kingdom'' (CVCP). As of July 2022, UUK is led by President Steve West – Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) – and Chief Executive Vivienne Stern.
