Roswell () is a city in, and the County seat, seat of, Chaves County, New Mexico, Chaves County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. Chaves County forms the entirety of the List of micropolitan areas in New Mexico, Roswell micropolitan area. Chaves County is a county in New Mexico, United States. As of the 2019 census, the population was 64,615. Its county seat is Roswell. Chaves County was named for Colonel Jose Francisco Chaves, a military leader there during the Civil War and later in Navajo campaigns. The county was created by the New Mexico Territorial Legislature on February 25, 1889, out of land from Lincoln County. Chaves County comprises the Roswell, New Mexico Micropolitan Statistical Area. Alternative High School (AHS) is a public senior high (secondary) school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; which teaches grades 10 through 12. AHS is currently located at the Clinton Ford Centre, which was home to the former Clinton Ford Elementary School. AHS was launched, independent of the board, in September 1974 by a parents group. It reflected many of the "alternative education" ideas that were popular at the time. The early philosophy the school borrowed from the ideas of A. S. Neill, who founded Summerhill School. Robert H. Goddard High School (''Goddard High School'', GHS) is a public senior high school in Roswell, New Mexico, United States. It is a part of the Roswell Independent School District. Established in 1965, the school is named after rocket pioneer Robert Hutchings Goddard. The colors of GHS are navy blue, Columbia blue and white, and the school mascot is the Rocket. History The majority of classrooms at GHS are located underground. The school was completed in 1965 at the height of the Cold war. Walker Air Force Base, located on the south side of Roswell, was considered a major target for Soviet ballistic missiles. The classrooms were built underground so that the school could serve as a bomb shelter in the event of nuclear war.
