University Heights Center
The University Heights Center is a former school building in the University District of Seattle, Washington, United States. It is located at University Way and 50th Street. The building was opened in 1903 for University Heights Elementary School. The building is alleged to be haunted. In 2011 Historic Seattle awarded the organization a preservation award for care in restoring the windows. The University District (commonly, the U District) refers to a collective of neighborhoods in Seattle, Washington (state), Washington, so named because the main campus of the University of Washington (UW) is located there. The UW moved in two years after the area was annexed to Seattle, while much of the area was still clear cutting, clear cut forest or stump farmland. HistoryLink is an online encyclopedia of Washington state history. The site has more than 8,100 entries and attracts 5,000 daily visitors. It has 500 biographies and more than 14,000 images. The non-profit historical organization History Ink produces HistoryLink.org, stating that it is the nation's first online encyclopedia of local and state history created expressly for the Internet. Walt Crowley was the founding president and executive director.
