University College Cork Rugby Football Club currently plays in Division 1B of the All-Ireland League (rugby union), All-Ireland League. Founded in 1872, they originally played as ''Queen’s College Cork'', as UCC was then known. Recent successes include winning the All Ireland U-20 Championship in 2002. In the same year, they also reached the AIB League playoffs for the first time, narrowly missing out on promotion to Division 1. Rugby Union
Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. In its most common form, a game is played between two teams of 15 players each, using an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field called a pitch. The field has H-shaped goalposts at both ends. John Kelly (rugby Union, Born 1974)
John Kelly (born 18 April 1974) is a retired Irish rugby union footballer. He played for Munster in the Celtic League and the Heineken Cup, and played for Cork Constitution in the All Ireland League (AIL). Munster Kelly made his Munster debut against Cardiff Blues in September 1997. He scored his first try for Munster in this game. He was part of the Munster team that lost to Northampton Saints in the 2000 Heineken Cup Final, and he was again on the losing side when Munster lost to Leicester Tigers in the 2002 Heineken Cup Final. Kelly was part of the famous Munster team that beat Gloucester in the 'Miracle Match'. Munster required a try bonus-point, as well as a victory margin of 27 points, to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2002–03 Heineken Cup, and Kelly scored two tries as Munster won 33–6. Peter Stringer
Peter Alexander Stringer (born 13 December 1977) is an Irish former rugby union player who played at scrum-half. He played 13 seasons with Irish province Munster from 1998 to 2011; he then played seven seasons from 2011 to 2018 in England with various teams — Saracens, Newcastle Falcons, Bath, Sale Sharks and Worcester Warriors. Brian Spillane (born 26 January 1960) in Cork is a former Irish rugby union international player who played for the Irish national rugby union team. He played as a number eight. Frankie Sheahan
Frankie Sheahan (born August 27, 1976) is a retired professional Irish rugby union player. During his career, Sheahan played for Munster from 1996 until 2009 and for Ireland from 2000 until 2007. Sheahan played his whole career as a hooker. He finished with Munster in 2009 after playing 163 over 14 years. Donnacha Ryan
Donnacha Ryan (born 11 December 1983) is an Irish former rugby union player and current coach. Ryan spent most of his career representing his native province Munster, spending 13 seasons at the club, before moving to French club Racing 92 in 2017, where he spent the final four seasons of his playing career before retiring and joining the coaching team at La Rochelle ahead of the 2021–22 season. He played primarily as a lock, but could also play as a flanker. Mike Ross (rugby Union)
Mike Ross (born 21 December 1979) is a retired Irish rugby union footballer who played prop for Irish club Leinster and the Ireland national rugby team. He attended St. Colman's College, Fermoy, as a day-boy from 1992 to 1998, and he played his club rugby at this time with Fermoy RFC. The former UCC and Cork Constitution player made the move from Munster and played for three years at the highest level in England, making his name in the English Premiership with Harlequins. William Roche (rugby Player)
William Joseph Roche (28 March 1895 in Limerick, Ireland – 26 June 1983 in Bandon, County Cork, Ireland) was an Irish rugby union player who represented Munster, Ireland and the British Lions. He also played club rugby for both University College Cork and Newport. Club career Between 1920 and 1927 Roche played club rugby for Newport and was captain during the 1926-27 season. In 1926 he captained the club against the New Zealand Māoris in a game which ended in a 0-0 draw. Rugby international Ireland Roche won 3 caps for Ireland during the 1920 Five Nations Championship. Patrick Parfrey
Patrick Parfrey, OC (born 1950) is a Canadian physician, specialized as nephrologist and epidemiologist. Parfrey is an internationally known scientist and clinical epidemiologist. In addition, he has provided leadership to the sport of rugby union, coaching teams at the local (Swilers RFC), provincial (Newfoundland Rock) and national (Canada) levels and serving as president of Rugby Canada. Ronan John Ross O'Gara ( ga, Rónán Ó Gadhra; born 7 March 1977) is an Irish former rugby union player and current coach. O'Gara played as a fly-half and is Ireland's second most-capped player and highest ever points scorer. He is currently head coach of La Rochelle in the French Top 14. Ben Mitchell (born 6 April 1994) is an English-born Irish professional rugby union player who is currently a lock. , he is with the United States team Seattle Seawolves in Major League Rugby (MLR).
