Universidad De Carabobo
The University of Carabobo (Spanish: ''Universidad de Carabobo'') is an autonomous, public university of Venezuela located in Valencia, Venezuela. It offers graduate and postgraduate studies in different areas. The university offers a lot of green spaces for student recreation, as well architectural art around the faculties, a theater, and two dining halls. There are around 65,000 students, mostly coming from the central part of the country. The main campus is at Bárbula, north of Valencia in the municipality of Naguanagua. The University of Carabobo also has a centre in La Morita, Maracay, Aragua State. History The University was reopened in 1958 after the coup d'état which ended the Perez Jimenez dictatorship. It acquired the former railway station at Camoruco, some 3 km from the city center, which had become redundant with the closure of the rail service to Puerto Cabello. 1958 Venezuelan Coup D'état
The 1958 Venezuelan coup d'état took place on 23 January 1958, when the dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez was overthrown. A transition government under first Adm. Wolfgang Larrazábal and then Edgar Sanabria was put in place until December 1958 elections saw Democratic Action candidate Rómulo Betancourt elected and take office on 13 February 1959. One of Caracas' neighbourhoods, Barrio 23 de Enero (''23 January neighbourhood''), is named for the event. Events Background In December 1957 there was a referendum to extend the mandate of Pérez Jiménez to solidify his regime and legitimize the armed forces. The closest precedent for the coup occurred on New Year's Day, 1 January 1958, when Venezuelan Air Force fighter planes soared into the sky over waking Caracas. Camoruco Railway Station
The Camoruco railway terminus (Spanish: ''Estación Camoruco del Ferrocarril'') in Valencia, Venezuela, is a rare survival of a 19th century railway station in the South America country. The building is also known as the ''Rectorado'' of the University of Carabobo. When the Puerto Cabello and Valencia railway closed in the 1950s, the station was transferred to the University of Carabobo which converted it for administrative use. Location Camoruco is a suburb of Valencia 3 km from the city centre. While the railway line was in operation, there was a tram service from the station to the Plaza Bolivar in the centre. Initially the trams were horse-drawn, but were powered by electricity from some point in the 20th century.
