"Universally Speaking" is a song by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers from their eighth studio album, ''By the Way'' (2002). It was the fourth and final single from the album and was released solely in Europe and Australia in mid-2003. The track was also included on their live album ''Red Hot Chili Peppers Live in Hyde Park'' and their ''Greatest Hits'' album. Song information XFM online said "Universally Speaking" is a "fairly upbeat rock ode" and ''Rolling Stone'' said it was "Beatlesque psychedelia". The cover for the single is the same as the cover of the ''By the Way'' album, except the colors are reverted to normal. The I'm with You World Tour was a worldwide concert tour by American rock band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers in support of the band's tenth studio album, '' I'm with You''. It marked the band's first tour in four years and first with guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who replaced John Frusciante in 2009. The band was also joined for the first time by backing musicians Mauro Refosco (percussion) and Chris Warren (keyboards). The first North American leg of the tour was briefly postponed due to a leg injury sustained by singer Anthony Kiedis which required surgery. Klinghoffer also broke his foot during the tour; however, no dates were cancelled due to his injury. The By the Way Tour was a worldwide concert tour by the Red Hot Chili Peppers in support of their eighth studio album, ''By the Way''. A DVD of the August 23, 2003 concert in Slane Castle, titled Live at Slane Castle, was released after the tour ended. Background The songs of By the Way sound more melodic than the previous funk-rock releases. This was made possible by John Frusciante, who wanted the album to have a more atmospheric soundscape. However, Flea disagreed with the approach the album was going, but felt that he wasn't heard. It reached the point that he almost quit the band after the album was released. Fortunately, Flea and Frusciante were able to reconcile, and the band were able to start the tour. "Catholic School Girls Rule" is a song from the 1985 album ''Freaky Styley'' by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Although never released as a proper radio single, a music video for the song was made and was directed by longtime friend, Dick Rude. The video was only played on Playboy TV because of a nude scene, and because it also featured a controversial scene of Kiedis singing from on a cross. The song was also featured on the band's 1992 compilation album, ''What Hits!?'' and the music video can be found on the VHS/DVD of the same name. Background The song is inspired by an instance where a 14-year-old girl who attended a local Catholic school met singer Anthony Kiedis backstage, who slept with her while on tour before and after discovering her age. Dick Rude
Dick Rude (born 1964) is a director, actor and writer known for his appearances in and contributions to many Alex Cox films including a starring role in 1986's '' Straight to Hell'', for which he also served as a writer and contributed to the soundtrack. Rude directed the Red Hot Chili Peppers music videos "Catholic School Girls Rule", "Fight Like a Brave", and "Universally Speaking" as well as their live concert DVD '' Off the Map''. His most recent film is '' Let's Rock Again!'', a 2004 documentary that documented the final tour of musician Joe Strummer shortly before his death in 2002. Brendan Mullen
Brendan Mullen (October 9, 1949 – October 12, 2009) was a Scottish nightclub owner, music promoter and writer, best known for founding the Los Angeles punk rock club The Masque. Through Mullen's support at various nightclubs in California, the scene gave birth to such bands as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Go-Go's, X, The Weirdos and the Germs. Early life Mullen was born in Paisley, Scotland, and moved to Stockport near Manchester, England, when he was eight years old. He spent his early teen years writing for various British music magazines. He also worked as a local newspaper journalist at the ''Barnet Press'' in the London Borough of Barnet from 1972 to 1973.
