Unity Football Club is a Canadian semi-professional soccer club based in Langley, British Columbia that plays in League1 British Columbia. History The club was officially unveiled on November 22, 2021, as an inaugural license holder for the first season of the new semi-professional League1 British Columbia in 2022. The team was formed in partnership with Trinity Western University and their Spartans sports teams with the head coaches of both the TWU men's and women's soccer teams being involved with the club. Their inaugural matches occurred on May 22 on the road against TSS FC Rovers for both the male and female teams. The women's team recorded the club's first ever victory, defeating the Rovers 2-1. League1 British Columbia (L1BC) is a semi-professional men's and women's soccer league in British Columbia, Canada, which began play in May 2022. The league is sanctioned by the Canadian Soccer Association and the BC Soccer Association as a pro-am league in the Canadian soccer league system. The league is a member of League1 Canada. L1BC operates at the same level as League1 Ontario and the Première ligue de soccer du Québec. The semi-professional league was created to fill in the gap between the top amateur leagues in the province, such as the Pacific Coast Soccer League, Fraser Valley Soccer League, Vancouver Island Soccer League and Vancouver Metro Soccer League, with the professional top tier Canadian Premier League. Trinity Western Spartans
The Trinity Western Spartans are the athletic teams that represent Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia. The university's teams are members of U Sports, and compete in the Canada West Universities Athletics Association, and where applicable, in the Pacific division. Since joining Canada West and U Sports in 1999, the Spartans have captured 13 U Sports team championships and 32 Canada West team championships. The Spartans men's volleyball team has won six national championships, while the women's soccer team have won five and the women's volleyball team has won two. 2022 League1 British Columbia Season
The 2022 League1 British Columbia season was the inaugural season of play for League1 British Columbia, a pro-am league in the Canadian soccer league system. The league is the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of British Columbia except for fully professional clubs in the Canadian Premier League and Major League Soccer. Seven clubs participated in the 2022 season in both the men's and women's divisions. TSS FC Rovers defeated Varsity FC in the final to win the inaugural men's title and qualify for the 2023 Canadian Championship, while the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy also defeated Varsity in the final to win the inaugural women's title.
