Unity (Hungary)
Unity ( hu, Összefogás), also called: Left Unity (Hungarian: ''Baloldali összefogás'') was the informal name of a short-lived political alliance in Hungary of five political parties formed for contesting the 2014 Hungarian parliamentary election. The parties involved were the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP), Together 2014 (E14), Democratic Coalition (DK), Dialogue for Hungary (PM) and Hungarian Liberal Party (MLP). It was dissolved in aftermath of the alliance's poor results. Attila Mesterházy
Attila Mesterházy (born 30 January 1974) is a Hungarian politician, who served as the seventh chairman of the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) from 10 July 2010 to 29 May 2014. He was the party's candidate for the position of Prime Minister of Hungary in the 2010 and 2014 parliamentary elections. Studies Mesterházy was born in 1974 in Pécs, Hungary. In the years 1988–1992 he attended secondary school (Lovassy László Gimnázium) in Veszprém. In 1992–1997 he studied economics at the Corvinus University in Budapest, obtaining a diploma in 1997. He was a Fellow at the University of Valladolid in Spain (1995–1996), Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (Vienna School of International Studies) (1996–1998) and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands (1997). Democratic Coalition (Hungary)
The Democratic Coalition ( hu, Demokratikus Koalíció, DK) is a social-liberal political party in Hungary led by former Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány. Founded in 2010 as a faction within the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP), the Democratic Coalition split from the MSZP on 22 October 2011 and became a separate party. It has nine MPs in the National Assembly and four MEPs in the European Parliament. Gábor Fodor (politician)
Gábor Fodor (born 27 September 1962) is a Hungarian jurist, liberal politician and a delegate to the Hungarian Round Table Talks. He was member of the Hungarian parliament from 1990 to 2019. Later he was the representative of the Hungarian parliament in the Council of Europe between 1991 and 1993. From 1994 to 1996 he was the Minister of Education in Hungary. Furthermore, he was the Minister of Environment and Water between 2008 and 2009. He is also a former president of the Alliance of Free Democrats (SZDSZ) in 2008–09 and for the Liberals in 2013–19 as well. Currently he is the CEO and founder of the Central European Political Transition Institute. Ferenc Gyurcsány
Ferenc Gyurcsány (; born 4 June 1961) is a Hungarian entrepreneur and politician who served as Prime Minister of Hungary from 2004 to 2009. Prior to that, he held the position of Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports between 2003 and 2004. He was nominated as Prime Minister by the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) on 25 August 2004, after Péter Medgyessy resigned due to a conflict with the Socialist Party's coalition partner. Gyurcsány was elected Prime Minister on 29 September 2004 in a parliamentary vote (197 yes votes, 12 no votes, with most of the opposition in Parliament not voting). He led his coalition to victory in the 2006 parliamentary election, securing another term as Prime Minister. Green Liberalism
Green liberalism, or liberal environmentalism, is liberalism that includes green politics in its ideology. Green liberals are usually liberal on social issues and "green" on economic issues. The term "green liberalism" was coined by political philosopher Marcel Wissenburg in his 1998 book ''Green Liberalism: The Free and The Green Society''. He argues that liberalism must reject the idea of absolute property rights and accept restraints that limit the freedom to abuse nature and natural resources. However, he rejects the control of population growth and any control over the distribution of resources as incompatible with individual liberty, instead favoring supply-side control: more efficient production and curbs on overproduction and overexploitation. Benedek Jávor
Benedek Jávor (born 2 July 1972) is a Hungarian politician and a former Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2014 to 2019. He is a member of Dialogue for Hungary, part of the European Green Party. Biography He finished his secondary studies at the Benedictine High School of Pannonhalma. He graduated in biology at the Faculty of Science of the Eötvös Loránd University in 1997 (MSc), and in 2006 he received his Ph.D. at the same university. György Gordon Bajnai (; born 5 March 1968) is a Hungarian entrepreneur and economist, who served as the Prime Minister of Hungary from 2009 to 2010. Prior to that, he functioned as Minister of Local Government and Regional Development from 2007 to 2008, then as Minister of National Development and Economy from 2008 to 2009. Hungarian Liberal Party ( hu, Magyar Liberális Párt, shortened form Liberals (''Liberálisok'') or MLP) is a liberal political party in Hungary that was formed on 27 April 2013 and is led by Anett Bősz.
