''Unitxt'' is the fifth studio album by German electronic artist Alva Noto. It was released on July 22, 2008 via Raster-Noton label. Background The word "Unitxt" means the processing of rhythmic patterns (''unit'' = unit of measurement, element) and information (''txt'' = data, language). The album is the first installment in a trilogy, followed by 2011’s '' Univrs'' and 2018's '' Unieqav''. Alva Noto
Carsten Nicolai (18 September 1965), also known as Alva Noto, is a German musician and visual artist. He is a member of the music groups Diamond Version with Olaf Bender (Byetone), Signal with Frank Bretschneider and Olaf Bender, Cyclo with Ryoji Ikeda, ANBB with Blixa Bargeld, ALPHABET with Anne-James Chaton, Opto with Thomas Knak, and Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto with whom he composed the score for the 2015 film '' The Revenant''. Life and career Carsten Nicolai was born in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz) of Saxony, GDR in 1965. He studied architecture and landscape design before pursuing art. In 1994 he founded the label NOTON, following which a collaboration with RasterMusic began and by 1999 the two labels had merged into Raster-Noton, which operated until 2017. This is also seen in the coverart for each, which, when combined, form a triptych spelling ''Uni''. The music is more rhythmic and dancefloor-oriented. Aleph 1 This is an eponymous album as he used one of his stage names, Aleph-1. The concept of the album and its name, Aleph-1, derive from the theories of German mathematician Georg Cantor, who was a teacher in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, a city, to which Alva Noto is deeply connected with through his family.
