The United World College Maastricht (UWCM) is a United World College located in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The school was established in 2009 and moved to a new campus in the Maastricht neighbourhood of Amby in 2013. History Established in September 2009, the school originates from a merger of the International School Maastricht and the International Primary School Joppenhof. The school was the 12th member in the family of United World Colleges. In September 2013 the school moved to a new campus in the Maastricht neighbourhood of Amby. International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate (IB), formerly known as the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), is a nonprofit foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and founded in 1968. It offers four educational programmes: the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related Programme for students aged 15 to 19, the IB Middle Years Programme for students aged 11 to 16, and the IB Primary Years Programme for children aged 3 to 12. United World Colleges
United World Colleges (UWC) is an international network of schools and educational programmes with the shared aim of "making education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future." The organization was founded on the principles of German educator Kurt Hahn in 1962 to promote intercultural understanding. Today, UWC consists of 18 colleges on four continents. Young people from more than 155 countries are selected through a system of national committees and pursue the International Baccalaureate Diploma; some of the schools are also open to younger years (from kindergarten). Amby (Maastricht)
A former village, Amby is now a neighborhood (part 25) of Maastricht, in the Netherlands, located about 4 km northeast of the center of the city. From January 2, 1839, to July 1, 1970, Amby existed as a separate municipality. In November 2008, an amateur archaeologist discovered in a field 2 meters out of Amby the largest ever found Celtic gold and silver treasure in the Netherlands. Archaeologists from Maastricht and the VU University Amsterdam recovered 70 silver and 39 golden coins which dates back to the 1st century before Christ. The International School of Maastricht is based in the city of Maastricht in the south of Limburg (Netherlands), Limburg, Netherlands.
