United Thai Nation Party
The United Thai Nation Party (UTN), known in Thai as Ruam Thai Sang Chart ( th, พรรครวมไทยสร้างชาติ, ) is a Thai political party founded in March 2021 by Pirapan Salirathavibhag. It is running in the 2023 Thai election with incumbent Prime Minster Prayut Chan-o-cha as the party's candidate for Prime Minister. History The UTN was founded in March 2021 by Seksakol Atthawong, a former aide to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, to back Prayut's as Prime Minister after the 2023 election. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, the current leader of UTN, a former Democrat Party MP and an adviser to the prime minister, had previously said the UTN would welcome Prayut if he decided to leave the Palang Pracharath Party. The ''Bangkok Post'' is an English-language daily newspaper published in Bangkok, Thailand. It is published in broadsheet and digital formats. The first issue was sold on 1 August 1946. The Pheu Thai Party (PTP; th, พรรคเพื่อไทย, lit=For Thais Party, , ) is the third incarnation of a Thai political party founded by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The Pheu Thai Party was founded on 20 September 2007, as an anticipated replacement for the People's Power Party (PPP), which the Constitutional Court of Thailand dissolved less than three months later after finding party members guilty of electoral fraud. The United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) ( th, แนวร่วมประชาธิปไตยต่อต้านเผด็จการแห่งชาติ; นปช., alternatively translated as National Democratic Alliance against Dictatorship), whose supporters are commonly called Red Shirts, is a political pressure group opposed to the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), the 2006 Thai coup d'état, and supporters of the coup. Notable UDD leaders include Jatuporn Prompan, Nattawut Saikua, Veera Musikapong, Jaran Ditapichai, and Weng Tojirakarn. Prawit Wongsuwon ( th, ประวิตร วงษ์สุวรรณ, , ; born 11 August 1945) is a Thai politician who is serving as the First Deputy Prime Minister and previously served as Minister of Defence from 2008 to 2011 during the government of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiwa and from 2014 to 2019 in the first government of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha. The Democrat Party ( th, พรรคประชาธิปัตย์; ) is a Thai political party. The oldest party in Thailand, it was founded as a royalist party, and now upholds a conservative and pro-market position. The Democrat Party made its best showings in parliament in 1948, 1976, and 1996. It has never won an outright parliamentary majority. Akanat Promphan ( th, เอกนัฏ พร้อมพันธุ์; born 12 January 1986) is a Thai politician and former Democrat MP who served as Private Secretary to Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban in the government of Abhisit Vejjajiva and as a spokesman for the People's Democratic Reform Committee protest movement. 2023 Thai General Election
General elections are scheduled to be held in Thailand on 7 May 2023, after the 25th House of Representatives reaches its four-year term limit. Background Following a political crisis in Thailand, the military staged a coup d'état in 2014, ousting the civilian caretaker government. The military junta, known as the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), rose to power under the leadership of Prayut Chan-o-cha as Prime Minister. In 2016, the NCPO completed the drafting of a new constitution and held a referendum to approve it. They banned criticism of the draft constitution and prohibited monitoring of the referendum. Activists against the document were arrested, detained, and prosecuted in military courts, whilst voters who expressed their intention to vote against the draft were also arrested and prosecuted by the military regime.
